Everyone knows that reading is important, but have you ever wondered why? In the list below you will find the reasons why reading is so vital and I hope you find out why you like books so much.

1. It gives us new knowledge

One of the most important reasons we read books is because we gain new knowledge. Books are a rich source of information. We will read about various topics and thus we will increase our sphere of knowledge. A new book means at least new information.

2. Reduces stress and depression

Reading also has a positive effect on the body. A book can relax us better than a walk in the park or when we listen to music. According to studies, those who read more have a low level of stress. There are thousands, if not millions, of "self-help" books that encourage readers to learn to rely on themselves, and many of them contain exercises, tricks, recipes that give us mental and physical clarity, thus removing depression.

3. Develop the brain

Studies show that reading has positive effects on the brain; if you are constantly mentally stimulated and train your brain, keeping it active, can prevent dementia (madness) and even Alzheimer's disease. The brain is a muscle like the rest of the human body and exercise keeps it healthy and strong. So, reading can be like solving a puzzle that trains you and keeps you engaged.

4. Improves memory

Every time we read a book we have to remember the characters, their past, space, action, conflict, intrigue. As the brain records all this, the memory becomes better, more efficient. Moreover, with each memory we create, the others will become much more solid and powerful and thus the storage capacity will develop.

5. Expand the level of creativity

The more we read, the more creative we become. For example, when we read a science-fiction book or one about ancient Greece, we "teleport" to another world. In the created world, our imagination will function at the highest level as we visualize things with our minds. The biggest difference between reading and watching TV is that reading allows us to unleash our creativity. New thoughts open our minds to rediscover life in new and better ways. We start to see the world differently and so we find new creative solutions.

6. Develops critical thinking skills

One of the main benefits of reading is to develop critical thinking. If we read a detective novel, for example, our minds will become sharper and we will become more perceptive. Critical thinking is especially important when we have important decisions to make. Reading requires an individual to think and process information in a way that television cannot do. We read more and understand better and can apply much easier.

7. Improves communication, vocabulary, and writing

Reading primarily improves our vocabulary. We often come across new words, terms, dialects, writing styles. With a wide vocabulary and tailor-made writing, the communication will be just as complex, which will help us to relate better with those around us and to become employees/model students.

8. Helps focus

In our crowded lifestyle, our attention is directed in different directions every day as we try to do several tasks at the same time. For example, we often find ourselves in a situation where we try to divide our time between solving a task at work, chatting with people via Skype, checking email or Facebook, and communicating with colleagues. All these multi-tasking activities can lead to high-stress levels and low productivity. When we read a book, all our attention is focused on what we read. Our eyes and thoughts are immersed in the details of the story. If you read for at least 20 minutes each day, you will be amazed at how focused you will be throughout the day.

9. It can be a great hobby

Reading keeps us busy and also helps us to spend our time in a way that is as favorable as possible. Not only does it distract us from the problems we have, but it also protects us from monotony. Books are excellent sources of recreation and are a great way to get rid of boredom. And as they create new and unseen worlds, you will be much more relaxed and revitalized.
