6 Essential Tips to Stay Productive at Home
Small steps to get work done from home
1. Select a Location for your workspace
The most essential thing is your workplace location, where you are going to sit for a long period of time taking calls, managing your emails, writing them, researching on topics as well as taking decisions. Hence the location needs to be different from your leisure space. DO NOT, I repeat DO NOT use the bed as your workstation. The bed is a resting place and as soon as you get on your bed, a signal is sent to your mind that the body is ready for rest. During that period the productivity drops to a bare minimum and your work get hampered.
2. Work with clear goals
When you are working from home it is essential that you know the outcome of the work you are doing. Be it may that you have to complete a presentation or part of the presentation, you have to research certain topics, prepare an excel sheet, analyze the data or make 20 calls to get up to date with information. Set clear goals for what you want to achieve in a day. This will help you stay focused and not waste any time doing unproductvie tasks. The best way is to use some app that tracks your activity or if you want to do it the traditional way then sticky notes are best. Cross each task after completion. This will give you a sense of completion and a little victory to celebrate. Remember it is more important to celebrate your short victories at home. This will keep you motivated and move you an inch closer to your final tasks.
3. Get comfortable lights
Setup a bright light at your workspace. We tend to underestimate the importance of bright light. Dim lights make your head heavy and it will trigger the stimulus of sleep in your brain. No matter how important the work is, your head will get sleepy in dim lights. Bright light reduces the strain from your eyes and you are energetic keeping all things constant. Try to use natural sunlight as much as possible. Investing in a good office chair might prove useful in this scenario. It will support your back posture and make your posture ergonomically correct.
4. Switch between positions
When you are working on your laptop or computer, we tend to sit continuously for long hours which then hampers our productivity. Instead switch between your positions. Try standing for a few minutes every now and then to stretch your back, to relax your muscles, to give you a feeling of freshness. Switching between positions also helps to relax your mind and give you a fresh perspective to look at things.
5. Keep distractions at bay
While working from home there are bound to be distractions popping up every now and then. Apart from that, the things which are on your work desk tend to disturb you. The first thing to do here is to clean your work desk and keep all the things which you won’t be needing while working very far away from the work desk away from your eyes. The small constant distractions will seek your attention every now and then. It’s best to keep these away as far as possible while working.
6. Exercise
No matter how many times it is said the importance of exercise can never be underestimated. Exercise your eyes, neck, back after a specific time interval. A small walk after every 50 minutes of work will help to focus your thoughts. After work as well, invest in yourself and get that body of your working, for a better mind requires a fit body. Taking short breaks for exercise will help you energize as needed throughout the day.
