While you are preparing your business cards to get printed, you need to take care of a few requirements. These requirements will include the right design and the proper format. Generally, the print shop you are choosing will be asking for these. Maintaining them will make the printing hassle-free. Also, you will get the perfectly printed business cards in your hand just the way you want.

In the following points, we have put together the basic requirements you need to maintain for business card printing. Take a look and ensure you follow them diligently.

Text and Graphics Requirements

When you are getting your business card printed, you surely want that to be the perfect representation of your brand. You will need the brand logo and the content to be clearly visible and precise. That is why you need to leave 1/8 inch around the edge of the card for positioning the artwork and text. If you don’t do so, the logo or a part of the text might get trimmed when the card gets cut. As a result, it will affect the aesthetic appeal of it too.

Bleeds

Bleed is typically the border that surrounds the card and gets cut in the printing process. Any printing company, will ask for the original artwork file to include bleeds. Hence, while you export the design to PDF, set 0.125 in or 1/8” bleed around the edge of your business card. However, you need to keep in mind that the bleed size requirements can be different for each printing shop. Before you get your cards printed, check the requirements of the printing shop first.

Borders and Background

If you are designing the business card using any software, it will come with preset background and borders. You can opt for them according to the color of your logo and text. But if you are getting luxury business cards printed, things will be different. You can go for a custom border and background in that case. For that, your border and background should go over the edges slightly. Otherwise, the clear area might end up being on the edge. For flawless printing, this is a necessary step to follow.

Resolution

For luxury business card printing, you choose images as the background. This might be any graphic or your brand’s original image. In any case, the image adds up to the aesthetic value of your business card. With an original image, you will get to impress your potential clients too. This is a great way of customizing your business card. So, while choosing the image, you need to go for at least 300 dpi resolution. Otherwise, the image might have jagged edges or appear pixilated even though it appears fine on screen. For checking the resolution, zoom in on your document to 600%. If the image appears to be acceptable, it will look fine when printed.

Color

The colors on a digital screen are made of components red, green and blue, (RGB). However, for printing output, the color components are Cyan (blue), Magenta (red), Yellow and Black or CMYK scheme. Hence, while choosing the design, remember that it won’t appear the same while printing. Keeping this in mind, choose the bright colors for your business card.

So, now as you know about the five steps for preparing your business card to get printed, what are you waiting for? Choose a reliable and affordable printing house with a considerably high online review and BBB accreditation and place your order.
