Tips to Hiring a Better and More Qualified Team
Hiring is a difficult and stressful process. Follow these tips to get the most out of your interviews.
If you want to run a successful sales business, you need to hire the right sales team. After all, your sales team is responsible for generating revenue. So how do you hire the right sales team? Here are some tips to help you hire the sales team that will take your business to the next level.
1. Hire people who are hungry for money.
You need a sales team that always wants more. Don't hire someone who is content with selling a certain amount of product in a week. Hire someone who is determined to beat the previous week every single week. You need a sales team who wants to take fancy vacations, drive fancy cars, and buy a fancy house. A good sales person in driven by money. They also go for it! If you have an employee that wants to sell to an entire business instead of just one person, you're talking to the right person! Ask people to sell products in the interview, to determine how they handle objections. A person who is hungry for the sale will not let the person tell them no!
2. Offer a structure that never limits commission.
If your sales team knows that they will stop gaining commission at a certain point, they're not going to work past that point. Set up a structure where commission is unlimited. Emphasize the possibilities for go-getters to shoot for the stars and make all the money they want.
3. Offer a base pay.
Many people won't work at a job that is strictly commission. Many people have steady bills, so they need a steady paycheck. People should not come on board for the base pay—they should shoot way higher. However, they may accept the job knowing that they have the guarantee of some pay, if there's a learning curve. Sometimes it takes awhile to start getting those sales, and this gives someone the confidence to join the team and learn. They'll be making plenty more within time if not right away.
4. Get them off on the right track.
Starting with a new company is crucial in an employee's success. In order to help people do their best, develop an orientation and training system that helps people learn everything they need to know about the company, office culture, and job duties. Clarify the rules, hours, salary, and where to go for help as soon as possible. When these things are clear right from the beginning, it helps determine if the employee is the right fit. It can be helpful to address these things in the interview, too, if possible. Finally, give people an onboarding guide to answer any questions they may have. Of course, give them other resources for when they have questions, too.
5. Professionalism tells you everything.
They say not to judge a book by its cover, but a person's appearance can actually tell you quite a bit. Don't look into labels or the cost of a person's outfit, but you should pay attention to if the person looks neat. Is their hair clean and brushed? Are their clothes clean? Do they have a professional demeanor? Were they on time? Are they professional enough to keep their cell phone on silent throughout the interview? Do they let you finish speaking before they speak? A lot of people will respond to a salesperson based on their professionalism. Don't be afraid to do the same thing.
Sales is an art. Find artists who can create a masterpiece by following these simple rules. Hiring the right people can be a matter of success or failure, so look for the people who will help you succeed!
