Starting a business can be very exciting. It feels as if it’s the best moment of your life. Which of course, one of those. Imagine having the ability to put it up from scratch. It’s not as easy as it sounds but you were able to finally make it. Then, what now?

Marketing your business plays a vital role for people to know that your business even exists. There are a lot of things to do when doing the marketing. But sometimes, we missed the part of What NOT to do since you are all caught up on your TO DO list.

Things To Avoid So It Won’t Hurt Your Business:

1. Not Setting Up Goals

It is the first thing that needs to be done even before having a business. Not setting up a clear goal in mind can lead to a disastrous outcome. You may think that others are doing it and learning as they go along. Sure, you can do that in the process. However, without setting up your goals on what to achieve in your business, you are planning to fail.

Not setting up goals even just for your everyday operations can cause chaos all throughout the day. Make sure that you have that goal in mind even before you sleep at night. That way, you will have a more structured plan on how the day should go. Then you can do something about it in case you have some issues along the way.

2. Not Spying with the Competition

It doesn’t mean that you need to do it ala “Mission Impossible” kind of spying. But in order for your business to thrive, you need to be on the lookout for the competition. This way, you will have an idea what works for them and if you can also apply it in your business. You can also create a strategy in order to be more appealing to your customers.

Not spying with the competition will leave you clueless. You need to know what they have to offer and their differences so that you can do something about it to stand out. As the old saying goes, “Keep your friends close and your enemy closer.” That’s also applicable in the business world so you have to apply those rules.

3. Not Researching About Your Customers

Knowing your customers is the best way to reach them. It is not enough to just have people come around to see what you have and leave empty-handed. You need to know what these people are looking for. If you don’t offer it, make sure to add it on your list. The customers should also have a say about your product or services in order to improve your business.

Not researching about your target market is like shooting the air blindly. You will never hit anything and worse, nobody will buy from your shop. Why? Because you simply don't care about who your customers are. Your customers are the vital part of your business since they will be the one to decide if you should stay or you should go.

4. Not Building A Website

Every type of business these days needs an online presence. It is not enough to just have a Facebook page. Sure, it can be another form of marketing. But having a website is a must in order for your prospective customers to know that you are a legit company. It can also help you expand your business from where you are to other places you cannot be physically present.

If you don't build your website, you are limiting your business growth in just one location. You are missing out on the potential of earning more income that might destroy your business in the end. What if people can't go out of their houses anymore? Which is happening now because of the quarantine. You need to be visible online and make some deliveries for them.

5. Not Being Innovative

It can be applied the moment you launch your business. It is a good marketing strategy to let people know if you have a sale or if you changed something from the original plan. It can be appealing if you are always ready to innovate whether you are selling products or providing services. Keep the customers happy yet intrigued about what you will be doing next.

Not being innovative can leave your customers bored to even check out your shop. You need to find a way to keep them engaged. Have some promos or hold a SALE! People love it when they see the red SALE sign. It’s a marketing strategy that most if not all businesses do whether big or small. It wouldn't hurt if you do that as well.

Conclusion

Marketing your business is a must if you want your business to thrive. It’s not an easy task to do since you will have to do more than one thing to keep the ball rolling. But once you have it established, all you have to do is to just repeat the steps to make your business grow. It’s not enough to just have customers who come and go everyday. You need to have loyal customers who will vouch for your products and services. That’s one of the best things that you can have and a great element for your business to remain standing through tough times.
