Starting a business can be a scary and exciting ordeal (all at the same time)! However, once you decide to take the leap, you can easily be overwhelmed by all of the choices. You may want to do freelance work or you might want to sell products.

No matter what you decide to do, it is important that you find the right starter business. Here are some things that you need to think about before you sign the dotted line. If you are joining a company, you may want to ask the following questions.

Can you work part-time or do you need to devote your full attention to it? Many people want to start a business in their spare time. This allows them to try out a business, without losing the stability of their full-time job.

Others prefer to jump right in, quitting their job and working on their business full-time. You have to decide which type of person you are.

That being said, you may start part-time and then go to full-time as you build up your customer and client base.

If you can work part-time, do you need to devote certain hours to the business? If you decide to keep your full-time job or you are trying to work around your children's schedule, you are going to need to know what hours you need to put into it.

Though there are many businesses that you can work at whenever it works for your schedule (early in the morning, afternoon, or even in the evenings), there are some businesses that need you to be working during certain times of the day. If you have to answer calls, you may need to be available during normal business hours. This may not be the best business for you.

What types of expenses do you need for this business? Every business is going to have some expenses. If you are selling products for another company, you may have an upfront cost, which includes a business starter pack. You may also have a monthly or an annual fee. This may include the price to have a website where your customers or clients can order, without going directly through you.

If you are selling products, are you going to need to keep them on hand or can people just use your website to order products? Even if your customers or clients can order off of your website, are you going to want to keep some products on hand for shows? You may not be comfortable having products on hand, while others prefer to have products available when people call needing something.

How do you get paid? Most people start a business as a way to increase their income so it is really important to find out how you are going to get paid. Will you get a percentage of each sale?

Do you get paid monthly for the sales that come from your website? Or do you get paid when you actually sell the products yourself? By buying them at a discounted rate, you make money when you sell them directly to your customers or clients.

Since most people decide to start a business in their spare time, it is important to figure out whether or not that is possible. You also need to figure out if you have to work certain hours or you can work whenever it works for you. You also need to figure out how much it is going to cost to start your business. Do you have to pay for a starter kit? Do you need to stock products in your home? Can your customers and clients just order off of your website? Do you have to pay for a website?

It is important to figure out how you get paid. Will you get paid weekly or monthly? Do you just get paid when people buy products directly from you? There are many types of businesses because nobody is the same. You have to figure out what you want in your business, what you want to sell, how much you are comfortable paying, and how often you want to get paid. Then, you can find the right starter business for you!
