Stop Overlooking Valuable Resources Buried in Your Email

Are you missing out on useful tools and other helpful benefits?

Do you accept the publishing related help that's available in your emails? You might think this doesn't really apply to you, but you decided to read the story out of curiosity.

I'm sure it would surprise you to realize there are lots of great writing related resources that populate your email. Some are unsolicited, and some are not, but in both cases, they sometimes have a tendency to get buried.

That might not be so bad, being as there is so much junk mail that we receive, and it doesn't only come in our Spam folder. But there are also valuable tools and resources that can actually end up saving us money, or even helping us make more money online.

This makes it all the more important for us to give a second thought to the way we currently go through our emails.

Sifting through tons of emails on a regular basis is no fun.

Every writer and aspiring author would agree that sifting through junk mail online can be a really tedious task.

Even when you have your spam filter turned on, and try to keep things orderly and neat, it's easy to end up with hundreds of unwanted, or "not needed" emails in the course of a few days (sometimes way more).

After a while, we may tend to start overlooking things, or taking what's in our Inbox for granted.

Even the things we subscribe to and choose to receive for a good reason, end up becoming obsolete in our minds, or buried under emails with juicier subject titles.

If you want to make sure not to miss out on some pretty good book promotion and marketing resources for your book, you might want to start checking your emails a little more closely.

Email Marketing

Email marketing is extremely effective, so chances are, you may already be receiving promotional correspondence from providers who offer book marketing and related resources.

Sometimes this mail appears to be unsolicited (though in most cases, you probably inadvertently agreed to have it come to your email, or you forgot that you did).

Don't allow yourself to be annoyed, and discard important details, simply because you don't recall requesting it.

Instead, consider whether what they're offering sounds good enough for you to take a moment to check out.

Free Publishing Resources

To your surprise, you may find some really awesome publishing resources for new and aspiring authors, and they're available to read in your email, if you so desire.

One example is the Author's Publishing Magazine. I get this free publication directly in my email on a regular basis. The magazine is brought to me by the BooksGoSocial founder, Laurence O'Bryan.

A few years ago, I came across their book promotional service on Twitter, so I used BooksGoSocial to help promote my novel. I also opted into their free email delivery system.

For a couple of years, I continued receiving all kinds of helpful notifications and information related to the publishing industry.

They help new and existing authors promote their new books with the attractive ads they publish for the author on Twitter.

It can be great to have publishing industry resource providers take notice of you as a writer and become your followers.

If you're lucky enough to have this happen, be sure to make a point to show appreciation for the various promotional opportunities they may provide you with, and many of them are often free.

BooksGoSocial is one of those providers that new authors should pay attention to, whenever you see their name.

That's what I did when I first saw them offering the Author's Publishing Magazine. I've enjoyed the tips and advice, and taken advantage of it for years.

When it comes in my email, I can either choose to read it right away, or save it in a folder and read it at my leisure.

Sometimes I may not even get around to reading it, but I like knowing I have the option to refer back to it, if I want to.

Cost-Based Marketing

There are lots of other self publishing related resource providers who spread the word with email marketing.

Some offer similar style magazines and newsletters or similar publishing related content. And of course, some of them often charge a fee.

Fees can range between affordable and reasonable, to outright ridiculous. In all honesty, I'd be careful about paying for cost-based services that use email marketing strategies.

This is only a good idea if you feel confident about the service provider that is offering the services.

  • Do they appear professional and provide easy contact details?
  • Do they have a visible web presence and following?
  • Do other authors mention them?

These are just a few questions you should know the answer to. On the other hand, when you see a good deal, and have evidence that you're dealing with a reputable provider, go for it.

Self Publishers Email Newsletter

Sometime ago, I was invited to try out an email delivered newsletter that was designed to help self publishers.

The online newsletter was called #PublishingReinvented and I received it on a weekly basis. The monthly subscription was only $6.

I gave it a try, and it ended up being definitely worth it. Here's what they offered at the time:

  • Weekly insider advice on preparing, editing, publishing and marketing your own work.
  • Personal email interaction and response to questions
  • Regular freebies
  • Support from their writing community, and more

They also provided discounted editing, publishing and marketing services, plus related advice about minimizing your out-of-pocket costs and expenses.

All their helpful publishing related resource services were worthy of the nominal monthly fee I paid.

But one major reason I decided to give it a try is because of who is offering it. It happens to be another resource that originates with BooksGoSocial.

Laurence O'Bryan (Author and Founder of BooksGoSocial and also of The International Dublin Writers' Festival) had done it again, and had me hooked on another cool writing resource, and it all started with an email.
