Leadership, starts with you. In today's world, the need for leadership is enormous. No amount of obstacles can hinder a functional team or group led by the most effective leaders. The leadership you have today, is your business tomorrow.

Leadership is something that could be learned thru a journey of lifelong endurance. Leadership development is something looked up upon by many employers.

Firstly, let's look at the types of leadership. In total, there are 8 types of leadership worth looking at :

1. Autocratic Leadership

In autocratic leadership, the leader makes all the decision while ignoring most input from the other team or group members. Autocratic leaders make decisions based on their own beliefs while discarding others' advices or suggestions.

2. Pace Setting Leadership

A pace setter leader sets high standards or expectations on his or her team. The leader sets the pace wherein the team members must follow and uphold. It is as if the leader will constantly scream, "Do this, now!"

3. Transactional Leadership

With transactional leadership, you will expect to get paid, promotions, rewards, or bonuses only if you managed to give the leader what he or she wanted. This type of leader believes that structure, instruction, and monitoring is required to complete tasks, otherwise, the employee will not be self-motivated or autonomous enough to work on his or her own.

4. Technical Leadership

In order for a person to be the technical lead, he or she must have the appropriate skills and personal traits to lead a team of other technical experts. He or she will make decisions, oversees, and lead the development of technical solutions. Sometimes, he or she will do executive coaching too, wherein, these managers dispenses the right knowledge for the executives to function and to seek further self development opportunities.

5. Servant Leadership

A servant-like leader, as its names suggest, aims to serve well of other people, instead of trying to get power or control. Other people could be the the team members, customers, partners, or the community. This type of a leader is well known and well-regarded as the benefactor of many.

6. Situational Leadership

A situational leader adjust, adapt, and acquire everything in order to fit the task or the unique situation the team members are facing. He or she understands that there is no one management style that fits all. He or she understands your circumstances and makes changes accordingly.

7. Laissez-faire Leadership

A Laissez-faire leader doesn't interfere too much with what his or her team members is doing, for as long as they get the job done well. They don't give too much instruction or guidance. Instead, the team members have to use their own mental faculties, resources, and experience to finish their jobs.

8. Transformational Leadership

This leadership approach is value creating. By following this approach, it will have a positive change towards the team members. A leader of this type usually coaches the team members till they become mighty leaders themselves. He or she does not keep tips, tricks, or experience to themselves. They share what they know, until you are wiser.

As above, those are the 8 types of leadership you could find everywhere. However, what do you think are the leadership traits or leadership qualities that a leader must possess?
