Have you ever wanted to start a blog, but all the information on how to start one is outdated or just didn't seem like it would work?

Have you tried to create a blog post, but didn't know the first thing about how to write one?

Well, I've comprised 5 tips that will help you not only write your first blog post but actually start your blog. These tips I used the first time I restarted my blog and I'm sure they'll work for you.

Let's get started…

---

1. Find a blogging site that works for you.

Tumblr-I used to have a health blog on Tumblr that I abruptly stopped because of school. I liked it because you could customize and decorate your blog to your particular aesthetic. However, the site is a little more saturated than it was way back in 2012, and exposure is harder to get.

Blogger- Blogger by Google was okay. I didn't like how hard it was to customize my profile and get traffic to my site. Like YouTube, you needed a certain amount of traffic to monetize.

Vocal .Media - No BS, the website you're reading this article on is one of the best writing websites out there. I like how there is no limite to how many stories you can publish a day, and readers have free access to your article yo without a monthly limit due to lack of a membership.

Ultimately, you have to find the one that works for you. Because what I might absolutely love, you might not, so please take your time and research.

2. What do you want to write about?

You've found the website that works for you, now it's time to figure out what you want to write about.

Years ago, bloggers would stick to one niche. Nowadays, I've noticed readers want more relatable content.

For example, one day you could be talking about your experience in lockdown during the pandemic the next you could talk about your crazy ex who joined the circus.

Okay, that last part wasn't very relatable but you get the picture.

It's important to keep your audience engaged and sometimes if you're writing the same thing in different ways, it can become repetitive and boring.

3. Make your post at least 600–1k words minimum.

This is the shorted part of this article, but it's certainly not the least important.

I always say the quality is better than quantity. I also say it's important to have a good meaty article the person can be transformed by. If you think you can do that in fewer words That's awesome, but I highly recommend that you try to make your article at least 600–1k words (one to two pages) minimum.

Some people like reading on their work or lunch breaks. Give them something to look forward to reading by attempting to make your article 5–8 minutes long.

4. Edit. Edit. Edit.

Now that you've finished writing your first post, the next thing you need to do is edit. Then all you have to do is publish your article!

Editing will give you a chance to:

Fix grammar mistakes.

Add content or delete unnecessary information

Fix sentence structure

Add "Calls to Action," social media links, etc.

Protip: I use Grammarly to help me find all grammar mistakes and Natural Reader as an artificial intelligent proofreader.

5. Share your work

Congratulations! You have just published and written your first blog post ever. Now all you have to do is share it with the world by

Joining Facebook groups and sharing links to Instagram and Twitter.

Protip: use these hashtags to get wider exposure on social media:

# Amwriting

# Blogger

# Bloggercommunity

# Bloggerswantwanted

#Blogging

#Amediting

#bloggersofinstagram

#blackbloggers

These tips have helped me and I know they will for you. I can wait to see your blog out there!
