Starting a business in North Carolina can be difficult especially when you’re not sure where to turn. While in the beginning, I thought I did all the research necessary, nothing prepared me for what I did not know. It was not until after registering my licenses did I find out more work was needed before selling. Even finding out a few extra things. Not until recently, did I realize the surface hadn’t even been cracked. Now that I’ve realized my mistake hopefully this will help the next person that is looking to start doing the same.
North Carolina along with many other states charge taxes which means you’ll need to go through a lot more in simpler terms. To give an idea of what’s to come in this series - I’ll help with giving a pathway of what it is you need to know and places to turn to for help.
Background
Years ago I started a blog, however, since I did not understand how to generate money from it and did not take the time to do adequate research I gave up on it.
I’ve worked at many stores such as Subway, Fazolis, Toys R Us, Which Which, Quiznos, in the Cross Creek Mall, Postmates, Uber, UberEats, DoorDash, and MOD Pizza. It wasn’t until right before MOD Pizza and I parted ways, I began to decide to start my own business. To be honest working for others is not something nor probably half of the people on the planet want to do.
After buying my machines, coming up with a business name, filling my business name, and buying an e-commerce platform did I realize I probably should have done this while working for other people. That wasn’t the case. So now I work for Uber and am constantly revising my website.
Back to creating a business in North Carolina
After getting an e-commerce platform the shirts were not doing as I’ve hoped looking back I understand in a rush to get something together I put out anything in hopes it will sell. No sales, time to go back to the drawing board. While hearing about how I didn’t make any sales can be disheartening it wasn’t for me because it wasn’t until later did I realize it was a blessing in disguise. After going back to the drawing board I did some side selling, however, soon after stopped because it was too much. Selling to others helped get the word out, however, it was always something. For instance, the main problem was after getting all the information such as size, number of items, colors, and designs they would either go M.IA. or rush me to get the item made. With the way business was conducted I’ll let them know when the shirt was ordered and when it arrived. After the shirt arrival - the shirt would be made that day or the following. So, knowing that I was not taking long they were just being impatient made me realize I should stop. As I said there is a reason why I do not work for others.
Although you may be starting an online store it is still a lot of paperwork that needs to be done before selling anything. While I am still getting my paperwork done - my website is now a blog platform.
