Having a clear plan when starting a business is essential to the process. Nobody likes unseasoned chicken and jumping into a business without a clear vision, is like taking a bit out of a plain piece of chicken. Before registering your business there are a few things you need to ask.

1. What type of business will I run?

2. What is my targeted audience?

3. How much am I willing to spend for the startup cost?

4. Am I going to start with an online or physical location?

5. How am I going to market my brand?

6. What is the purpose of my brand?

Online stores the question you should ask.

1. What platform best fits the brand?

2. Am I going to sell on Instagram and Facebook?

Selling tangible items.

1. What wholesaler best fits the budget and brand?

2. How many items will be sold?

3. What is the price range for these items?

Some of these questions might not have any answers until you get further into the process. It is good to have a list of questions and a 6 - 12 month plan for the business. When creating a business plan set deadlines and calculate shipping time frames. Online business paperwork can take up to two months to get together. The main reason why it can take a month or two is if you're looking for a free consultation you will need to schedule an appointment. North Carolina Department of Revenue offers phone services. It took about a month for me to hear anything back. Typically it takes a couple of weeks to a month. This does not include filing the right documentation and receiving the paperwork needed. On average you should expect to spend about two to three months getting everything prepared. Most wholesale companies do not take long to send requested products; it can take up to a week, maybe two. Most likely this will be a side business before it becomes your main business, so it is best to factor in how much time you will have to actually spend on everything.

Coming up with a business name, logo, and slogan is a part of the business concept. If you already have a business name you are good to go. However, if every name you come up with seems to be taken, think outside of the box. For instance, my business was created because I was tired of getting grieved about how loud my burps are and how much I burp. A simple fix would be to take medication, but who wants to take a pill every day or every week for a burp? When coming up with a business name I used things that I like to figure out the name. Then headed over to GoDaddy to see if a domain was available for each possible name. Thus, leaving me with Belching Mama.

The logo may take some time to get, but it can always be updated later in the game. There are a few companies that will help with logo creation such as Canva and Fiverr.

Canva is a free website. It gives the creator the power to create logo designs, Instagram posts, ads, banners, and many more. They do have a pro membership which gives the creator a wider variety of images and font.

Fiverr allows a person to hire a skilled professional. In this case, you would want a graphic designer. After looking at different portfolios you will contact the person and it is up to them to accept or decline. Everything is done through Fiverr such as communication and payment.

There are other companies that offer the same service. Whether you are choosing to hire someone or create your logo make sure your logo fits the business brand.

A slogan is not needed for a company. If you choose to attach a slogan to your company make sure it is catchy. Slogans can help people remember your company. Yes, the products will help them with it, but who doesn’t enjoy a catchy phrase?
