Information shared is based on personal experience. Helpful links will be provided at the end of all content. Be sure to research out to individuals that work in the field. Contact information can normally be found on your state revenue page.

Part two of starting your online business is going to briefly discuss the basics. Because this is geared to North Carolinians it is a lot of information and will be discussed in-depth later. If your state has sales tax the information may be helpful.

1. Business Concept.

There are a few questions that should be asked when starting a business. What is your business about? Is it online-based or will you want to have a physical location in the future? How much are you willing to invest? Is failing an option?

If you are doing a blog create a list of things that you feel you’ll be able to talk about. If the topics are all over the place try to find the common ground with each topic. That will be your niche. There are times when you have created a niche, but when it's time to write or type the creativity is not flowing. Take a step back and rethink your niche or clear your mind.

If you are creating an apparel shop find wholesalers. Make sure to know what is needed to buy and resale. Some companies require buyers to submit an application before purchasing anything. Still do research on the type of material the company uses and the manufacturing process.

2. Permits, Licenses, + Forms.

Any business will require a license. Each state has a revenue website that will layout all information needed in order to get a license. Permits and other forms will be needed to have your business in good standing. Most revenue departments offer free consultation and will answer any questions.

3. Registering.

Registering your business deals with having a license. There are companies that will register your business for you and most likely your state website page will promote their service.

4. Nexus.

This is not needed until you began selling in other states. A Nexus and sales tax coincides with a state's requirements. There are thresholds that need to be reached. This will also be talked about in-depth in a later post.

5. Wholesalers.

As mentioned in the business concept a wholesaler can help save money. They sell material in bulk due to this the prices are cheaper for the business compared to if you go to a store and buy the material at retail price. When looking for a wholesaler there are a few things that need to be considered. This will be talked about in a later post as well.

6.Platform.

The right platform makes a difference. The chances of finding the perfect platform for you on the first try is rare, however not impossible. Each platform offers something different for business needs. Although research may be done you still might find that working with the platform is not what was expected and another platform is better suited.

7. Advertising.

Self-promotion will help a lot with getting your business out. Word of mouth helps as well. Networking is key to getting your business out to the targeted audience. If your anti-social advertising online will help as well. Many companies offer budgets and will let you know the possible reach for your budget.

In future posts all 7 categories will be discussed in more detail. Helpful resources will also be discussed. Even though this is geared to what it has been like starting up in North Carolina. Some of the information can be for the general as well.
