I have written on Vocal since 2017, and since top stories have been introduced, I have had four stories picked as a top story. The $5 bonus may not seem as much to many, but to many this is a big boost to their vocal earnings. If you get many top stories, not only does the bonus boosts add up, it also helps you get more exposure and more followers and be able to connect to others.

To tell you the truth, there is no set formular tha makes stories a guaranteed top story. The stories that make the front page changes on a daily basic. One day it could be about the latest make-up products, the next it could be about cuddling dogs or dressing up your cats. You will never know when your story will become a top story until the day it happens.

As somebody who has written four top stories, I noticed that they are all different from each other. Whilst this guide won’t gaurentee you writing top stories every week, this will help you increase your chances of getting one. I hope this guide will help and inspire you.

Writing Something That Will Enchance Others

It takes more than just following trends and rehashing news. It’s also good to add your own opinion and have a different point of view. Multriple layers and points of views is what makes Vocal such a fulfilling place to write for. If you write something that really touches the heart of staff, you may be on the road to a top story.

Entering Challenges

Challenges are one of the biggest features on this site with the open-minded prompts and the huge mone prizes, it’s hard not to resist. I had one of my Halloween playlists picked as a top story and it made me feel like a winner, despite not winning the big prize.

Collaborating with Brands

I noticed many top stories are collaborations with other brands. If you are lucky enough to get offered a collab like this for Vocal, I would go for it. Vocal are always encouraging collaborations between other writers and companies.

Being Authentic

The most important thing about Vocal is being authentic. Vocal is a place that takes pride in it’s diverse writers and people that come from all kinds of different backgrounds.

Sharing Achivements

Sharing big achivements is something that Vocal loves seeing. I shared how my insight of reading had changed after reading 100 a year and I have also given my advice for Vocal after writing 500 stories. Both became top stories. I’ve also seen one writer celebrate having over ten million reads n Vocal, and I think that is the most I have ever seen a writer have on Vocal. But regardless of how big or small your Vocal achievements are, they are worth sharing.

Keep On Doing What You’re Doing

You’ve got to be in it to win it! You never know when your story will be picked as a top story. It could be your first, 10th or a 1000th story that becomes a top pick. Whatever you are doing, as you see your reading count tally up slowly, your readership and audience is increasing. Whatever you are doing, keep at it. You are doing a good job!

The fact that you have already written and published work means that you are already ahead of many other writers struggling with writer’s block, importer syndrome and time constraints. There are so many that want to write, but for whatever reason they don’t. There will always be somebody ahead of you, but you are also ahead of the people that haven‘t taken part.

Thanks Chloe for sharing your experience and observations. I write fiction and poetry and have no idea how they curate the top stories.
