I have been a #TikTokRep #TikTokPartner for Fall 2019, Spring 2020, Summer 2020 and Fall 2020 semesters at the University of Southern California.

Throughout my time at USC, I have worked extremely hard to build my social media and marketing skills through brand partnerships. I have been a brand ambassador for Abercrombie & Fitch, Boohoo, Biore Skincare, EF College Breaks, Higher Education Skincare, Holla App, Kendra Scott, Redbull, Smashbox Cosmetics, Timberland, Tinder University & TikTok, so if you have any questions about what its like to be a brand ambassador, hopefully this helps.

1. RESEARCH.

The first step to getting a job is looking for it. It sounds simple but it can be quite confusing and broad so here are several different places to start. First and foremost join a few job board platforms such as Famepick, Activate Social, Real Clever, Statusphere and Her Campus are all places where you can find collaboration opportuntnies. The next thing that I would look up is college marketing agencies, a few I have worked for are Archrival Agency, NewBridge Marketing, Fuse Marketing, Youth Marketing Collective and InfluenceHer Collective. Lastly, simply googling "brand ambassador for [insert your school]" is a fool proof way to find yourself a fun part time gig.

2. EXPERIENCE.

Having some kind of on campus marketing, content creation, photography or creative skills are a must to become a brand ambassador. When I landed my first gig with Abercrombie, I had less than 1,000 on Instagram and was certainly not considered an influencer. Two years later, I have over 10K on instagram and over 125K on TikTok and have worked with some of my dream brands. How? I made sure that I created QUALITY content that represented my photographic and creative skills and also figured out ways to innovate on seeding products and getting the word out on campus.

3. EXPECTATIONS.

So you just post on social media and get paid, right? Wrong. Brand ambassadorships are a unique kind of student job where you get to use your creative, marketing, communication and public speaking skills all in one place. You are often tasked with creating unique posts to highlight a product or event and gifting product or discount codes to students to raise brand awareness on campus. For most programs, you are required to report to a manager with your analytics of all social posts, how many people you reached out to or gifted product to, your key learnings and how you can improve for next time. I have created amazing professional relationships with the managers and brand partners that I have worked with over the last few years! You never know...they could be writing you a job reccomendation one day!

4. COMMUNICATION & CONSISTENCY.

The Abercrombie & Fitch position was a highly selective and curated group of individuals, making it one of the more difficult roles that I have applied to. I did not know this at the time, but they told me that what landed me the role was keeping a persistent line of communication throughout entire process. Vetting for yourself and sharing why you would be a valuable asset to the client is the most important factor when explaining why you are the right fit for the job. After you have put yourself out there, all you can do is wait. If you don't get it now, don't worry, there are plenty of opportuntieis that can elevate your candidacy in the future.

5. CREATIVITY.

What can you bring to the table that others can not? Your follower count does not matter (most of the time) when you are starting out as a brand ambassador. You are going to be the face of the brand which means that the content that you create needs to align with the brand you are representing, however it is up to you to tailor the brand to your unique viewpoint as a creator. Is it adding a unique style of editing, a consistent feed, an overarching theme to your content? Once you have that unique brand identity for yourself, it becomes a great talking point during your interview with the campaign manager.

All in all, the experiences that I have gained as a brand ambassador for all of the amazing companies listed above has been so valuable and unique to my college experince and personal growth as a content creator.
