As a Cloud consulting services company we have seen how the development of cloud computing has been accompanied by exponential growth in data. The cloud eliminates the problem of unlimited scalable storage and on-demand computing power. It also provides a managed data landing zone for data collection from various internal and external systems.

Before the era of Big Data, data was structured and exchanged between companies, mainly using standard mechanisms such as Network Data Mover (NDM). The need for near real-time information was limited. Data extraction and transformation were batch-based and scheduled for off-peak hours, thus reducing MIP usage and production transaction interruptions in line.

In addition, the data formats were limited, and the most common format was the flat file with separate headers and trailers. The header and trailer store critical pieces of information like the arrival time of the data, and the number of entries in the file.

In addition, relational database management systems (RDBM) such as DB2, hierarchical databases such as IMSDB, and user-defined logic in flat files can Extract, Transform, Load (ETL), and COBOL. or PL/I collect, analyze and store data. Data volumes are easier to manage because resources for data creation are limited.

With the advent of big data, the ability to collect, store, and analyze exponentially growing amounts of data is becoming increasingly valuable to businesses as technology advances. Today, data is a competitive advantage that enables companies to analyze and extract business information to make informed decisions.

Additionally, organizations must follow rules that require data collection from multiple sources to make informed decisions based on multiple data points. Regulators require the collection and storage of data and the application of predictive technologies based on artificial intelligence. This change in data dynamics has grown exponentially in terms of data volumes, data sources, data exchange patterns, and data formats.

Our experience working with global clients from all industries shows that most businesses face challenges when it comes to collecting, sharing, and analyzing data when implementing local technology stacks. Device manufacturers have local file systems, but these are similar to traditional local databases. With databases, the problem is compounded by expensive database licenses and the cost of supporting database administration.

Cloud Consulting companies must develop and manage complex local mechanisms for collecting and replicating data with their data. Businesses need a highly-skilled workforce to handle local data. As a result, companies migrate data process management to the cloud, with the most preferred cloud-managed services.

Explore data migration based on AWS strategies

Migrating data to the cloud requires a strategy that ensures smooth operation and business continuity. In some cases, due to regulatory requirements, it may be advantageous to retain certain types of data. Your data migration method may vary depending on the size and type of your data.

To continuously collect data from multiple resources in the AWS Cloud, AWS also offers data migration and entry services that you can use, such as AWS Data Migration Service (DMS), which introduces the relational data in AWS. Amazon Kinesis services also help capture, store, and process streaming data.

For data transformation, AWS offers Amazon Elastic Map Reduce (EMR) for managing Cloud Hadoop clusters and AWS Glue for managing ETL (Extract, Transform, and Load) services. Additionally, Amazon Athena and Amazon Redshift offer Lakehouse cloud deployments with Spectrum data and Amazon Quicksight for the visualization layer.

In a nutshell

Migrating data to the cloud is critical for businesses to keep their operations secure in the future. A well-organized and automated approach enables an enterprise to benefit from data migration to the cloud.
