Living in the world today can be stressful. There's always something that needs your attention, whether it's work deadlines, family obligations or news of natural disasters and political strife. But how you choose to react to these events can have a huge impact on your mood and overall wellbeing.

In order for me to stay at peace during times when the world seems distracting, I follow these five simple tips:

Don't worry about a single thing, instead be thankful for all the things you have.

  • Be grateful for all the things you have. Being grateful for what you do have is more important than thinking about what you don't have or can't change, because it's a reminder that everything is going to be okay. When life gets busy and stressful, take a step back and look at how fortunate we are as human beings on this planet we call home. We're all so lucky to be here! You can even think of someone who isn't as fortunate as yourself and then realize that they would love to trade their blessings with yours if given the chance. When was the last time someone was happy with their situation? It's possible they were just being negative or focusing on what they didn't have instead of appreciating everything around them. Just think how much better off we could all be if everyone focused on finding happiness in what they already had instead of complaining about what wasn’t working out quite right...

Focus on your breath and take deep breaths to be present in the moment.

Focusing on your breath and taking deep breaths can help you stay calm when the world seems to be spinning out of control.

  • Take a deep breath. Begin by focusing on your breath, in and out, in and out. Notice how it feels to breathe in and out of your nose or mouth, or both—whatever feels most natural to you at that moment.
  • Take another deep breath if necessary (but not too many!). As long as you're able to maintain focus on your breathing, keep going! You may find yourself naturally taking deeper breaths with each passing moment here as soon as you start focusing more fully on what's going on inside of yourself rather than outside in the world around you.*

Have a steady yoga or meditation practice to quiet the mind and stay calm.

The next time you feel the need to quiet your mind, consider meditating.

A great way to do this is by focusing on your breath. This can be done in a variety of ways:

  • You can inhale for 5 seconds, hold for 7 seconds, exhale for 10 seconds, and repeat.
  • You can count each breath from 1-5 or from 1-10.
  • You can visualize light entering your body with each inhalation and leaving with each exhalation (this is referred to as pranayama).
  • You may choose to focus on an image or statue while sitting quietly in meditation; some common images include Gautama Buddha and Lakshmi (the Hindu goddess of prosperity).

Maintain an optimistic perspective and be grateful for your blessings.

You can choose to maintain an optimistic perspective and be grateful for your blessings. This will help you stay at peace even in the midst of troubling circumstances. The more good you find in this world, the easier it will be for you to feel at peace with yourself and your surroundings.

Here are some ways that you can work on maintaining an optimistic perspective:

  • Be grateful for what you have—your health, family, friends; anything else that brings joy into your life!
  • Remember that there are people who have less than what they need in life and focus on helping them instead of getting upset about things that aren't going well right now.* Stay positive by reminding yourself how fortunate we all are—we live in a beautiful place called Earth where there is plenty of fresh air and water available if we need it.* Focus on being thankful rather than focusing on what's wrong (this sounds like common sense but sometimes we forget).

Stay away from upsetting news, social media or negative people.

It is easy to get pulled into a downward spiral when you are exposed to stories that are disturbing or unsettling. You may want to avoid the news altogether, but if you still feel compelled to keep up with current events, make sure that you only use trusted sources like CNN and NPR. If there is one thing I have learned in this life it is that we can’t control what happens around us but we can control how we react. In order to be at peace in your own mind and heart; stay away from upsetting news, social media or negative people!

You can stay at peace if you keep a calm mind focused on being grateful for what you have.

You can do this. You can stay at peace even when the world feels distracting. Here are five tips to help you find your inner calm and stay that way:

  • Stay calm by staying in the moment. Focus on your breath, taking deep breaths in and then out again. If you're not a huge fan of meditation, try some light yoga or stretching exercises to help clear your mind.
  • Have an optimistic perspective! It isn't easy to maintain such a mindset all the time, but it's worth trying because there are so many benefits that come with having an optimistic outlook on life—it improves health and happiness levels too! (Plus it doesn't hurt to remind yourself how lucky you are sometimes.)
  • Stay away from negative people—they'll only bring you down! It can be tough when our closest family members or friends don't seem to appreciate what we have going for ourselves right now; if this is happening with someone close to you right now, consider talking about why their negativity makes things difficult for both of them as well as any other issues that may arise from spending time together during stressful times like these ones currently facing us today...

Conclusion

A lot of people struggle to stay at peace in today's world. But with these 5 tips, you can stay calm and centered no matter how crazy things seem around you. It might be difficult at first but it gets easier as time goes on because there will always be something new coming up every day which can make us forget about the blessings we have received from God or nature.
