BUT? IS IT ART?

Tell me, How does that make you feel?

.

I would like to offer up the following three examples of two totally different pieces of art

By the same artist (me)

As well as a brief rundown of different art styles that might help some who are learning about the very bare-bone basics of art historical styles.

.

First,

Here is a very rough guide to several different art styles, left to right, that you might commonly encounter.

.

Using a Forest Lake scene.

Here are All the art styles I can do, (so far) for customer reference.

6 ( ish ) different Art styles Left to Right

Styles left to right, child, Impressionism, Postmodern, Abstract, Surreal, ??

Child,

Impressionism,

Post Modernism,

Abstract,

Surreal,

?? What will be next in the twenty years?

.

.

Now, let’s look at two very different pictures.

The first one is for hotel rooms and waiting rooms

.

Picture ONE

It is to Art what Elevator “Muzak” is to “Proper Music.”

.

And Very roughly A4 ish length

.

.

Just some toys!

Nothing more or less!

Just toys!

If you happen to want something really dull, and unchallenging.

Ideal for a waiting room or perhaps a hotel room.

No horror

No gore

No weird and wacky style.

Totally inoffensive. (in a bad way)

No hidden meaning

No message

Just a Very Boring, Very Dull picture of some toys.

<yawn>

<shrug>

.

.

Picture TWO

The second is “Proper music”

Some may say its crap,

And they might be right.

BUT it affects people on a core instinctual level – Even – If the actual skill level IS crap!

.

Title:

The offended, the offensive, the veiled threat and the dead.

.

Size

A2

.

Medium:

Pastel

.

A One-off Original

NOT a mere print.

.

.

.

THIS IS AN ABSTRACT

IT IS NOT A REPUTATIONAL PIECE!

Just a random mess of colour.

(a bit like one of Andy Warhol's messes, but crap.)

Just an experiment in a totally abstract picture.

With NO discernible themes or shapes at all.

(Because my child-like skill level obviously cannot handle anything realistic or recognizable)

With a few totally random red lines on the top.

(So, if you think you see something, then trust me, you did not, you just imagined it from the random chaos of colours.)

.

.

NOW, A TOTAL CHANGE OF SUBJECT!

!

Now a random thought for the day:

Nothing to do with this abstract picture at all,

Just some totally random thoughts.

.

Just because you ban something does not mean it no longer exists.

.

Just because you silence someone does not mean they are not still screaming.

.

Just because someone can not win

Will not stop them fighting until the very end,

Even if they have to take out a load of “innocents” with them in the process.

.

.

If you Can forget it then it was not really offensive,

And you were never really offended.

It was Just bruising your “Karren like” ego a bit.

.

And if something IS really offensive to you,

Just because you stop anyone else from seeing something you found offensive,

That will never erase that same image from your own mind.

Barring disease of head injury,

That image is now burned into your mortal soul until the day you die…

You are now terminally tarnished.

Forever diminishing your remaining life, just that tiny bit…

.

.

Sweet dreams.

.

.

The point of all this being

Is that there used to be a running snob joke criticizing the uneducated plebs in a “down their nose” sneering manner,

“I know nothing about art”

“But I know what I like”

.

BUT

The joke is on the snobs,

Because the sentiment is 100% correct.

.

Art is NOT about anything you can read or hear a lecture on.

You do not have to know the fancy name of styles or anything about the life of the artist.

It does not even matter if the creator was a Genius or mentally challenged, Or even both at the same time (which is far more common than you might realize.)

And…

(This is the bit that might make a few rich people angry)

It does not EVEN matter if the art you have is a forgery!

(Unless you are just using art as an investment and keeping it in a light-proof vault instead of enjoying it)

.

THE ONLY THING THAT MATTERS!

Is how does it make you, the viewer feel?

My advice to you…

Is That IF a piece of art fails to “haunt” you afterwards?

If it does not touch your soul, (for good or bad)

THEN DO NOT BUY IT!

And Never Ever be ashamed to say

“I know nothing about art”

“But I know what I like”

.

You are a warm feeling human being,

You are NOT a mere cold encyclopedia!

You do not have to justify how anything reaches your heart!
