No one will tell you if your resume is good or not.

Do you think that someone will come to you and say that you have great achievements and experience, we are very impressed with you, all you need to do is just correct your resume and come back to us? No, you will never be going to hear those words, the recruiters never say this rather they will reject you in seconds.

If you are applying for jobs and giving your 100% but still not getting any positive results then try to find the reason, check what mistakes you made in your resume, and try to correct them.

Here are some of the common reasons:

1. Resume without any email address or with an outdated provider.

It is the most common mistake that people make in their resumes.

They don’t write their email address or use outdated services like Hotmail. You have to keep this thing very clear in your head that no one is going to waste their time to find your contact details.

No matter how experienced or intelligent you are. If they don’t find your email they simply put your resume in the dustbin. Always try to write your email because it’s the only way of standard communication and you try to use Gmail only.

2. Resume with personal pronouns.

Don’t use personal pronouns like I, my, or me because the company wants someone who can contribute to their business.

You have to start your sentences with verbs like completed, achieved, worked, etc. Sentences starting with verbs are most readable and correct; that’s why you have to avoid the use of “I.”

3. Resume with an objective statement

The objective statement is the section that contains your goals or opinion about the position you want to achieve.

This section is not at all required in your resume format. Instead of that, you can use the job target/job title.

4. Resume with insufficient keywords

A resume without the correct keywords is useless. The complete searching of any document is based on keywords, and if the device does not find the matching keywords it will never select that document.

Likewise, before reaching the human eyes, the resume is read by a program. So, keep remembering to add keywords.

5. Resume with uncertain length

Sometimes your resume is very concise, which shows the lack of skills or achievements or experience while sometimes it is too long, like 4 to 5 pages in which no one is interested in reading that.

The resume should be either one or two pages long. Don’t increase the length of your resume to show off your qualities because it will reflect that you are not able to prioritize things or you don’t know how to include that in your resume. The length of the resume is directly proportional to your mistakes.

The longer the resume, the more chances of mistakes. Make sure that it is at least one page long. There is no ideal length of resume but you can use a simple formula that if you are fresher or your work experience is less than 10 years then your reason length should be one page or if your work experience is more than 10 years then it should be 2 pages.

6. Resume with unnecessary bullet points

Being concise in a resume is good but being vague can't be tolerated.

You can write 20 words in 10 words that are good but you cannot force someone to infer what you want to say.

Including bullet points in your resume shows your consciousness while overusing bullet points shows your vagueness. Recruiters don’t like this kind of resume; they will reject it without reading them. In a resume the bullet points can be used in three elements i.e. the why, the how, and the what.

You can use bullet points when you are describing why you are important to the company, how you work, and what you are.

7. Resume without the recruiter/hiring manager’s interests in mind.

This is the most common mistake that every person makes on their resume. They don’t focus on the interest of the recruiter or hiring manager, they are swamped in describing their qualifications and achievements which are important too, but they forget that if your skills do not match the job requirements, then it’s futile.

Sometimes people apply for 20 jobs and send the same resume to every company. Don’t do that. You have to write your resume keeping your audience in mind and this will increase your chances of selection.

Before applying for any job you have a visit to their sites and check what they want in an ideal employee or for whom they are looking for. And keeping all their requirements in mind you have to write your resume. One of the best ways to avoid such mistakes is to keep yourself in the place of the recruiter and think like him.

Try to analyze your resume like a recruiter and ask questions yourself. Try to check if you can read in seconds or not or whether you can identify the key skills that are good for your company. If yes then good but if the answer to any question is no then you have to work on that only.

You have to research the company and the role you are applying for. Make a strategy to impress them and find the best way to communicate to them what you want to convey. You can visit cvDragon for creating a professional resume.
