Creating a website for your business is great. Just because it’s on the web, though, it doesn’t automatically mean that customers are going to come flocking to you. You need to promote your business and encourage people to click on your link.

When it comes to your website, you don’t just want visitors. You want those visitors to become customers. How you promote your business matters. Here are five ways to promote your website to get new customers.

Focus on SEO

We live in a digital age. When a person needs something, the first stop is almost always the internet. The problem is that there are millions of websites. You need to rank near the top of the search engine results pages to increase the chances that a potential customer clicks on your link.

One way to rank higher on Google (and other search engine) SERPs is to focus on your search engine optimization. Research keywords and place them organically throughout the text in your webpages and other content. Make sure your website is speedy and you’re mobile-friendly. Higher ranking sites are viewed as more trustworthy. When you rank higher, your site is more likely to be visited.

Create Content

Blogging is one of the most well-known forms of content. Having a blog is a great way to provide your website visitors with useful information. You can’t just post sporadically though. Consistency is key. In addition to blogging, you can incorporate all sorts of other content to build your authority and further promote your website. Consider including such content as infographics and vlogs.

Go Local

If you operate a local storefront, promote your website locally. This allows anyone living or visiting nearby to find you when they need what you have to offer. Create a Google My Business page. Incorporate local keywords into your content to help boost your local SEO.

For instance, if you operate in Indianapolis and operate a specialty bakery, you can incorporate such phrases as “Indianapolis gluten-free bakery” or “gluten-free cupcakes in Indianapolis.” You can also work with an Indianapolis digital marketing agency to develop other local strategies to promote your site.

Get Links from Other Sites

Chances are that your potential customers have other websites that they trust and go to for information. Some of these sites may be related to the products or services that you provide. You can promote your site by getting mentions and backlinks from these sites. Look to influencers in your industry. Search for broken links on relevant sites and reach out to the owners. Connect with other businesses, build relationships, and provide links to each other.

Post on Social Media

Just about everyone is on social media these days. While many people use it to stay connected with friends and family, the platforms have also become an effective place for businesses to connect with followers and gain new customers.

Like posting regular content, consistent updates on social media are essential. Regular updates keep you visible. The thing is that you don’t want to over promote your business in your posts. While posts that offer sales and showcase your products and services are fine in moderation, too many can drive people away. Share interesting information or provide a snippet from your blog. Offer up an inspiring quote or post about a topic that’s important to you. Don’t forget to respond to questions and concerns and interact with your followers.

Another great thing about social media is that you can use it to connect with your followers in real-time. You can answer questions, show off what’s going on behind the scenes, or give your followers a sneak peek at an upcoming new product. Don’t forget to engage your audience. Ask them questions and find out what they might like to see, too.

It’s not enough to simply create a website and wait. With millions of other websites online, you have to actively work to promote your site so that you stand out from all the rest. Your efforts will pay off with more visitors, increased conversions, and greater revenues.
