What Color Are You Seeing?

The color of your lenses shapes the way we choose to live.

Like many people you’ve probably heard phrases such as ‘never give up!’ Truly a powerful phrase, although you can only keep tackling the same situations with the same approach until it comes back to bite you in the butt. This in turn becomes stressful and very hard to keep up with especially if it’s scolding your kids every time they don’t finish their chores. Why does this happen? Ultimately, when situations arise that aren’t ideal we tend to emphasize things in a way that takes power away. I have witnessed this myself with how people talk to each other expecting things to be ‘done’ correctly. This color of seeing something as ‘wrong’ and fighting to fix it creates two opposing sides. With two opposing sides the reaction is to defend yourself and fight back because it’s human nature! Of course a child will fight back, they might even cut deep with their words which perpetuates this duel further. Wouldn’t it be swell if there was a way to skip that stress and extra fight just to make sure your child not only gets their chores done, but also learns mutual respect?

Who better to be that role model to creating some strong values and character development, right? Haha, you saw what I did there. There is a way to get all the perks of developing a closer relationship while getting those chores checked off as a plus! Shifting the color of things being wrong and demanding change, to a calmer more understanding perspective. Thinking that there might be a possibility that they might be going through a stressful time, and demanding things will just add to the fuel. Give the power back to them, empower them as if they had already finished them. Giving out the feeling of victory as if the task isn’t the answer or the determining factor to doing the ‘right’ thing. There is much more freedom and creativity towards action because it suddenly aligns and fits to their picture. No one asked specific tasks of them in a way that insinuates you either win at this or lose, they had the freedom to see it first in whichever shape or form that was. Trust me I didn’t know this before my own coaching journey, but wow what a challenge to start embarking on! This is the change that has attracted so much more creation and freedom not only in my life but in the lives of my clients. You never know what the world will surprise you with when you shift perspectives.
