Consistently Inconsistent or Just Versatile?

Analytical. Perfectionist. Reliable. Hard Worker. Virginal.

These are some of the traits that people associate with Virgos. We’re not prideful like Leos and don’t feel the need to constantly be first like Aries. We’re the worker bees of the Zodiac- smack dab in the middle of the twelve signs at number 6, we need everything to be just so. We hate anything disorganized or messy and don’t feel at peace when our daily routine is interrupted. Are we self-critical? We don’t think so, but we’re smart enough to realize it probably comes off that way. Are we picky? You betcha. Do we have excellent memory for detail? OF COURSE!

If you actually get to know us though, we aren’t quite the wet blanket of the zodiac wheel that we tend to come across as. If you need a friend to take you to the airport to catch your flight on time, we’ll have you there early and recommend which terminals offer healthy snacks, the best hand sanitizer and the most interesting magazine options. W're reliable to a fault and love to help those in need. We’re ruled by Mercury- the planet of communication. As a result, we’re typically whip smart and incredibly quick witted, except when Mercury goes retrograde and our whole world falls to pieces for those few short weeks that feel like forever to us. We live for peace, stability and practicality… as well as a healthy dose of sarcasm, though all of these traits pale in comparison to what we really crave, which is consistency, routine, order and organization.

Virgos are undoubtedly complicated. Everything we do we want to be the best at, because in our minds, second place isn’t an option. The name of our game is always perfectionism… except when we feel like we’re failing at something, which causes a general feeling of self-criticism that leads us to believe that we’re the absolute worst in the history of the universe and everyone is and always has been better than us at everything and always will be. It’s a lot of pressure being a Virgo. People just don’t understand how we operate. Hell, most of the time, we don’t even understand how we operate. But lets be honest, that’s what makes us kind of fascinating. We do things in a way that make perfect sense to us, but if we took the time to explain why we did the things we did the way that we did them, people wouldn’t understand and they would just wonder why on Earth we’re making things way more complicated and stressful than they need to be. What they don’t understand is that we thrive in chaos. Virgo likes to be the one showing off their fabulously patient nature while working through any and all situations. We’re not trying to be rude, we just want you to get on our page and start doing things our way. Because we’ve researched it and figured out the best, most efficient way to do things to produce maximum results and efficiency is something we’re all about. Coming up with rules, regulations and paying attention to the smallest, minute details is our thing. Our research and love of hard work speaks for itself. It makes us feel productive and useful, like we have a bit of control in an unruly, chaotic world.

Virgos thrive on lists and weighing out the pros and cons of every situation before making a decision. We have to be informed. We have to know exactly what we’re getting ourselves into, because otherwise, that fear of the unknown and all the little surprises that go with it make us uncomfortable and anxious. Especially when it comes to relationships- we like you, but we’re shy and can’t bear the thought of rejection, so we have to play it cool and not let our emotions get in the way of showing how much we like you. We don’t trust easily or quickly, but once we’re all in with a partner, you can trust and believe that we will be the best thing that ever happened to you. We’re considerate. We’re thoughtful. We like to please our partners. We love love… but we’re also pragmatic and realistic enough to appreciate good sex where we can find it and won’t hesitate to separate the two, with a carefully thought out and perfectly organized pros and cons list of all the confusing, weird, yet intriguing feelings we feel about it and another list analyzing why we feel that way.

So where do I fall on this list? Well, I’ll be honest. My only consistent Virgo trait is my inconsistency. In terms of being an organized, orderly perfectionist, I’m the complete opposite and if I seriously bothered to keep a list of anything, I'd likely just lose it. Yet I’ve been known to be critical, stubborn, overanalytical, picky to a fault and am a self-proclaimed master of sarcasm and quick wit. My rising and moon sign are both Gemini, and while I feel like I identify better with Gemini than Virgo on the surface, there are some of those inherently Virgo traits that rear their ugly head at the most inopportune times…. especially an overly sarcastic tongue and an overly self-critical mind. Though at first glance, I’m definitely outgoing, nosy, indecisive, dramatic, playful, and usually the first one out on the dance floor in any situation that allows for it- Virgos shy away from attention and Gemini's love it! With a Virgo you always know where you stand, whereas Gemini’s like to keep even the people closest to them always guessing and love the element of surprise. I can definitely see myself as both, which makes me predictably unpredictable and playing my hand close to the vest. As for whether or not I identify with Virgo, I’ll let you know once I’ve had a chance to overanalyze some more.
