The Best Yet Unromantic Things About Being Married to Someone

Because it's not always rainbows and butterflies.

Marriage is the best and worst form of union that is saturated with both love and pain.

Some married couples will try to talk you out of getting married, saying it’s not worth it or it’s not as great as other couples make it seem.

When married, you will have bigger responsibilities that will keep you from spending a Saturday night out with your friends or from watching that rerun from last season’s tournament.

However, don’t be disheartened by what you hear from others. The truth is, marriage is not all bad. If it were, people wouldn’t get married at all. To give you an idea, here are a few things that make marriage beautiful:

You are a team.

Whether you’re standing in line at a bank to settle your account or doing grocery shopping at the local supermarket, you’ll have someone beside you to lend a helping hand and keep you company.

Having your life partner beside you while doing the most mundane of tasks makes life a lot less boring. The next time you’d have to take your cat to the vet, know that your wife will always be there beside you.

You have an on-call personal nurse.

One of the great things about being married is you have someone to look after you, especially when you’re feeling under the weather.

When your nose is runny and your head throbs with pain, you don’t have to worry about dragging yourself to the nearest pharmacy or calling the clinic for an appointment. Your partner will do it for you.

The nights are not cold and lonely.

When you’re feeling cold despite being under the covers, simply extend your arm to the other side of the bed, and her body will keep you warm throughout the night.

When you have a wife, you’ll always have someone to cuddle with, especially during bedtime.

If you’re feeling down and need a hug, she’ll be the one to give it to you right away. You may not always feel like you’re newlyweds, but being married gives you someone to hold in your arms forever.

Spilling coffee on your shirt on the way to work is a lot less scary.

You’ve spilled coffee on yourself again, and it has always been a bother to get a new one from your closet.

But when you have a wife, she will rush off to get you a new shirt, not wanting you to run late. Not only this, but she will peck on the cheek while fixing your collar up.

Sometimes, you and your wife don’t need to say any words at all.

You’re attending your high school reunion, and your wife went along with you.

You talked with school buddies you haven’t seen in years and reconnected with your old study pals. You introduced your lovely wife to them, beaming with pride, and they couldn’t seem happier for you.

After a series of laughter and talking, you can’t wait to get home. Because she’s your wife, you can give her “that look” anytime, and she’d know it’s time to get out of the party.

You have a cheerleader.

Married life means coming home to your best friend and telling her about your day – including your struggles, achievements, and in-betweens. When you need someone to talk to, she will lend an ear and tell you that everything will be fine.

She’s your personal cheerleader who makes you smile even on the worst of days.

You can take her on a date whenever you want.

Intimacy is one of the important aspects married couples need to pay attention to. Many forget about it and often fall into the traps of comfort.

Here’s a gentle reminder: you should not stop taking your wife out on dates just because you’re married. She needs to feel that you still love spending time with her.

Go to fancy restaurants. Take a walk by the bay. Grab a cup of coffee in the middle of your day. Even spontaneity will make her heart swoon.

You can tell her “I love you” at any given time.

If you listened to Westlife’s Flying Without Wings, you would know that it’s you who can tell her the words anytime. She’s the first person you see when you wake up and the last one you talk to before drifting off to sleep.

You know everything about her.

You know each other better than you know yourselves.

You’re always together, like two peas in a pod. The more you see the real her, the easier it becomes for you to love her more. When you fight, you know what to do because you’re the person who knows her best.

Sex is not your only way to be intimate.

Marriage also means responsibilities. It is when you hardly find time to be with each other and even have a few minutes to yourself.

As you go through your daily matters, sex is often the last thing on your mind. However, this doesn’t mean you can’t be intimate with each other. In truth, showing vulnerability, listening, and simply being honest about everything are some ways to improve your intimacy.

You have someone to share your burdens with.

Sometimes, life can be hard. Problems will come your way, and struggles are inevitable. Because of this, it’s easy to fall into a slump.

Fortunately, you don’t have to face these struggles alone. You have your wife to grab onto for strength. Your burdens become bearable, and you now face problems that come your way head-on. All because of her.

Marriage means spending the rest of your life with your favorite person.

Is there anything else greater than this?

Life becomes promising when you’re married. You learn more about yourself — with what you’re capable of giving and sacrificing for the woman you love.

As husband and wife, you share everything -- from laughing at the same things together, crying over the death of your pet, and managing your budget in a month.

Marriage unites two separate souls. You become one for eternity.
