As anyone who's been in a relationship knows, they can be hard work. It takes compromise, patience and understanding to have a good, healthy relationship. Although they can require a lot of time and effort, they are definitely worth it. Every relationship goes through its own trials. Below are some simple and easy ways to help strengthen your relationship especially during hard times.

Communicate

One of the best ways to help strengthen your relationship especially during rough times is to communicate. Shutting down or saying nothing at all not only makes your partner feel insecure with themselves but it can also have them questioning the entire relationship. Communicate your thoughts and feelings and remember to do so in a mature and even mannered way.

Travel

Traveling is a great way to strengthen a relationship. Not only does it cause you to work together and enjoy each other's company, but it also allows you to escape for some quality time alone. Whether you dream about a Mediterranean cruise or traveling the coast of Italy, planning and taking a trip is a fun and exciting time for couples. It not only puts you in a better mood, but also gives you something to look forward to.

Try Something New

Trying a new activity together is a great way for couples to bond. Not only do they have to work together, but they also have to learn together, which will help with communication. Some fun ideas include rock climbing, hiking, archery or even something silly like roller skating. For an added bonus, do something new at least once a month and alternate who gets to choose the activity.

Cook Together

Cooking a meal together is not only a great bonding experience, but also a great learning experience. You can learn all about how someone prepares and makes food and even what their favorite foods are. Food is a great way to come together. If taking a cooking class is too much of a hassle or just too expensive, simply cook at home together. Once a week or even once a month, find a recipe online that both individuals will enjoy and go shopping together for the ingredients before cooking the meal together. It is a great way to try new dishes while also bonding as a couple. To avoid the argument of who cleans and does the dishes, just alternate. One week someone cleans up the ingredients while one washes the dishes and vice versa.

Exercise

Getting in some physical activity during the day is not only a great way to get and stay healthy, but it is also a great way to release some stress. Exercising together can help you grow stronger together. You can spot each other, encourage each other, and most importantly compliment each other. Setting aside at least one to two days a week where you work out together can help strengthen your relationship as well as your body. If going to a gym is too expensive or time consuming, simply buy a few weights for home use or take advantage of the parks in your local area that may offer walking trails or even some forms of exercise equipment.

Date Nights

Date nights are one of the easiest and best ways to help strengthen a relationship. Not only does it allow you to do a fun activity together but it also gives you a chance to catch up and unwind. Date nights don't have to cost a lot or be something super extravagant. Simply going out to dinner or even grabbing a bunch of snacks and watching a movie together can be a great date night. Alternate who chooses the date night.

These are just a few of the simple things you can do to help strengthen your relationship. Some other things include hugging and cuddling, which releases happy endorphins, and also just taking time each day to compliment each other. Just being present and putting in effort is a major key to having a good relationship.
