I’m a big fan of this new ‘you create your own reality’ craze. Right? I mean how did it take humanity thousands of years of embarrassing suffering to realize that indeed, it’s only you who can sort your shit out.
But wait, if thinking great things and acting ‘as if’ is the cure to all our agony, then how come we’re not strolling with beaming smiles singing joyfully? 😉
Believe it or not, I think I might have found the answer to this.
Choosing happy thoughts over shit ones sure can make you feel a bit better. At the end of the day, life throws enough crap in your face daily, you might as well choose to stop the self-imposed suffering.
Like the famous quote by Haruki Murakami, “Pain is inevitable. Suffering is optional.” — okay, but let’s not pour more salt into our already throbbing wounds. I think beyond the obvious, what this clever man is trying to say is that if you want to get from A to B, it’s going to take some effort.
And whether you make it to destination B depends on this one thing, and I mean one thing only. Spoiler alert! It's not about reading more self-help books, it's not watching more motivational videos, it's not about meditating for 24 hours a day. It's about a tiny detail that most people completely forget about. It seems so insignificant when focusing on the big picture. But doing this one thing is the ONLY thing that can help you sort your life out.
ZOOM IN ON THE BIGGER PICTURE
There is nothing more productive than taking the first steps towards your dream reality.
But the bridge between your dreams and your dreams becoming a reality is called NOW. Right now, this moment and no other.
I let you into a little secret. In my spare time, I do coaching work; prospective clients must first pass a test to gain access to my ‘secrets’. It’s nothing too strenuous, just one question: “What steps could you take right now to help you one step closer to materializing your dreams?”
You know, most people fail this test miserably. I’ve had answers ranging from, “Shall I read another book? I can start tomorrow. What do you mean right now? I don’t think there’s anything I can do today. I’m too busy after this call”.
You know often these people call themselves ‘action takers’, but the truth is, they are just ‘excuse makers’.
There is a vital ingredient missing from their dreams — it’s called ‘accountability’.
If you think you can’t start working on your dreams right now, while you’re reading this, I have news for you. “Friend, I really don’t think you’re there yet."
Go and watch another motivational video, or perhaps read another self-help book.
The flaw is in the system. You see, self-help books are great until they’re not. Watching videos on repeat is great, but there comes a point where you must realize that you’re only making other people rich while you’re staying confused and poor.
Right now, is the only time to make a change. It’s not tomorrow, it’s not next month or year — it’s only now.
If you don’t feel you can take a step right now towards your dreams — I’m afraid, your dreams are either not yours, or your ‘why’ is just not strong enough.
