People in the US are obsessed with the LGBTQ community.

LGBTQ Obsessed

LGBTQ.

When many people hear the term LGBTQ they think of pride, rainbows, parades, sex, and parties. The community is often seen as controversial due to religious beliefs that have been portrayed by the media. In society's eyes, I am a part of this prideful community, and I hate being associated with it. I do not hate it because of how I identify, or because of who I love, or the people in it. I hate that it has become somewhat like a club or a trend amongst many teenagers and young adults. The LGBTQ community has an issue with many people pretending to be gay, or are transitioning for entertainment. Exploring your gender and sexuality is natural for all human beings, but now many people in the US are obsessed with the LGBTQ community. Over the last couple of years, the LGBTQ community has seen an overwhelming number of people creating their own genders and sexualities, or identifying as a gay or transgender person when they are not. To fit into the LGBTQ community, there are people identifying with genders and sexualities that have never been proven to exist by medical professionals (ex: apagender, trigender, greysexual, etc.). Many of these people post obsessively on social media about their gender or sexuality to make themselves feel special, or to receive attention. It can make them believe they will become popular, or more liked for being “unique.” This is not what the LGBTQ community is supposed to be about. The community is supposed to be about gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender people coming together to support one another, especially in times of oppression. The LGBTQ community is for camaraderie, and fighting for the rights of the people. Often, people have internal and external battles simply because of their gender identity or sexual orientation. The general public fails to realize that this is just how some people were born, and it is not a lifestyle choice. No one wants or chooses to be gay or transgender in a heteronormative world. Those that are struggling with these battles are now being taken as a joke in society due to the outrageous numbers of people pretending to be gay or transgender, and making up genders and sexualities. This is not a game, this is some peoples' reality, and it is not by choice. I will not associate with the LGBTQ club or trend. One day it will not be a trend, and I will still be me. I have not chosen to be born in a body that does not match my brain. I'm still trying to coordinate my body, mind, and heart and I refuse to be seen as a joke in the process. There needs to be more education on the research of what it truly means to be gay, lesbian, bisexual, or transgender. Being gay, lesbian, bisexual, or transgender is a part of who some people are, whether they want it to be or not.
