Lack of Money Is the Root of All Evil

It sounds a bit far fetched but hear me out.

I heard this phrase from a financial guru named Dan Lok. I thought it was preposterous at first but in the end it kind of made sense.

One of the seven deadly sins is jealousy. When jealous pops up there's always a scene of drama and chaos.

You could be living your life happily but if you see someone with something that you like that you can't have something happens to your brain. We've all done stupid things because of jealousy. This could be a result of an ex lover taking on a new partner, or someone that's really popular among your friends.

In this day and age we can't escape money. I could go to probably 90 percent of the world and they will understand the concept of money.

I agree money is only worth the value that we give it and because most of the world believes in its value, it has value. So when we talk about jealousy and money we have a bad combination because there will always be people that have it and some that don't. As we've learned in the past, communism doesn't really work in practice.

I wouldn't say that people that lack money are evil but they might be given evil motivations. Who can blame them? We have to feed our family and put a roof over our heads. When a person is backed into a corner with nothing to lose, they can become the most dangerous person you encounter.

So that's only one aspect of how lack of money can be evil. Those that lack money in comparison to others can do crazy things too. This is where jealousy pops its head into the conversation. Sometimes we can be happy with what we have until we see someone with more than we do. Humans in general are competitive individuals. I might have enough but I want to have more than so and so. This is when we start to keep up with the Jones' by buying nice cars and houses to look more wealthy than we really are. This in turn can become a vicious cycle because it will put us into crazy debt.

Having that ambition to be rich can make us do some crazy things. We might step on others and neglect the ones that we love. The money chase is crazy sometimes and I'm sure you've seen it everyday. People backstabbing each other at workplaces to further their careers. They might lie about their qualifications and doom a company for a certain job. All of this is for the pursuit of more money.

What if you have tons of money? The trick is to know that you have enough. Sometimes people will always think that they don't have enough and never stop their pursuit of money.

Those that do have money and know that they have enough don't have money issues. A lot of our issues today stem from money. Relationships with loved ones, your own pursuit of happiness in your hobbies and goals in life might all stem from money. If you have enough money you aren't worried about not having enough money to feed your family, taking your spouse on a nice trip, or playing games wherever you want. The lack of these stresses help your personal well being. You can instead become a happier person not having to worry about these regular stresses that everyday people experience.

Having enough money means you don't stress if someone gets a higher paying job because you don't really care about the money. You'd rather do something that interests you. Imagine being able to find things that you genuinely like to do rather than having to do a job to pay the bills?

In the end, I know there are a tons of argument that maybe the underlying issue is that we place too much value in money. We have to face reality—we're always going to value money so learn how to get just enough so that you don't have to worry about it anymore. Jealousy will always be one of our human flaws and we have to become mature enough to get over ourselves.
