Hypnosis is a guided co-created experience. Want to argue about that?

I had an interesting message today that started out with the topic of ethics and hypnosis. It's premise is right on the line between myth and fact with hypnosis.

MrEthics: Hypnosis is unethical how can you victimize people by teaching it?

Me: So I could use hypnosis to make you agree with me that hypnosis is ethical, right?

MrEthics: No! MY WILL IS TO STRONG.

Me: That is correct. If people are trying to shift your state of mind wouldn't it be easier to use food, attractive model suggesting more, and offering you money?

MrEthics: That is not hypnosis!!! You make people make the choice for the victim!

Me: No one should be victimizing anyone. Hypnosis is words spoken to the subconscious mind that is always active. The person has the choice to act or not act. Sure psychological manipulation could be applied to enhance a state and soften a person up. You know like giving a client a few drinks and a dinner before engaging in business. Hypnosis increases speaks to the subconscious and the person responds. We don't have magic power.

MrEthics: That is not the same thing! The devil tells you what you want to hear!!!

Me: Everything is hypnosis or nothing is. Puzzle on that thought and maybe the hypnosis will settle in. Your subconscious never shuts off and hypnosis is just your ability to relax, change your state of being... and see past how your stuck on this. I wish hypnosis gave me the power to force you to change your mind. That's not how it works.

MrEthics: I KNOW YOU ARE TRYING TO CONTROL ME! WILL NOT HAPPEN!!!

Me: Your right. Not even hypnosis, of which I'm very skilled in, can force you to do anything different. You have to believe you want to and know your accountable for your choices. So I won't try to convince you, because if I had the power you'd already be convinced. I won't help you feel more self important on this self appointed crusade.

Unfortunately I edited out a lot of profanity and irritating someone who had to tell me I was playing with the devil was fun. I changed this just enough where I won't call the person out, but they will see this. So MCs' and Hypno folk, where do you stand? Do you think hypnosis, yoga, meditation, ouija boards are leading us to unethical promiscuity? Even ask that question I want to name a drink unethical promiscuity and invite you all over for a toast. How do you handle the people that so casually pass judgement on what they don't like?

I do not deny psychological manipulation happens to people out there but there are many tools used for those purposes. Hypnosis is one of them, but a tool is only as good as the person who holds it. We do not protect people from harm by lumping anything a person doesn't like as simply sinful. Every single day, every one us engages in influence attempts that may fall in this ethical trap. Even pacing and leading could be said to be an unnatural act because you intentional did it. There needs to a reality check for anyone who uses the term victim or victimization. These should not be easy labels to speak of flippantly. We should all strive to make the world a little better than we found it, and challenge those who thoughtlessly use ethic to bully others. Some of the worst offenders I have seen violating individual's consent, freedom, and privacy are those doing it as self proclaimed safety campaigners. Seek help if you need it, and don't be afraid to tell some people to leave you the hell alone. I look forward to hearing your thoughts.
