How to fix state of mind

Here are some suggestions, regarding that.

In my opinion, the change to Chakra becoming a nearly permanent state made some things increase in value (our T11 4 piece bonus) and it made some things decrease in value (State of Mind). Chakra still comes along with a 30 second cooldown, so if you happen to enter the wrong state by accident, you would still need to wait for that 30 seconds to be up before you could choose another one. Having points in State of Mind would reduce the cooldown by a pretty marginal amount and would still leave you with a bit of a wait on your hands, in order to correct that mistake or if you simply just needed to change states because your situation has changed.

Now that Chakra lasts indefinitely (unless you die or choose to click it off), there really isn’t much of a need for State of Mind as it currently exists anymore. So what can we do with it? What can we pack into that little square that can hold up to two talent points of ours to make it useful or noticeable again?

Here are some suggestions, regarding that.

Have State Of Mind Lower The Cooldown On “Holy Word” Abilities

This was an idea that Matticus actually brought up once, during a conversation he and I were having about the current state of Chakra and where we felt it was going. He suggested that State of Mind could make it so that each spell you used that was included in your current Chakra state would lower the cooldown of the Holy Word spell connected to that state by a certain number of seconds, every time you cast it.

For example, each time you cast Flash Heal while in Chakra: Serenity would reset the cooldown on Holy Word: Serenity by one or two seconds. Flash Heal is of course one of the spells used to activate that particular Chakra and would normally be one of the spells that would refresh the duration, were Chakra states not near permanent like they are now.

However, if we’re going to be casting Holy Word: Serenity and Sanctuary more, we need to take a look at just what we’re getting for that mana that we’re going to be using by casting each of those spells more often. This brings me to my next suggestion.

Have State Of Mind Reduce The Mana Cost Of The “Holy Word” Abilities

One bone of contention for holy priests has always been that Holy Word: Sanctuary is far too expensive for what little it seems to do. Even when Blizzard recently buffed it in the recent patch, it still couldn’t compare to what our other AOE heals could do, in terms of healing per mana or healing per cast. Holy Word: Serenity tends to not receive as many complaints and most priests will justify having points in Tome of Light, if for that alone. While it may not need to have its cost reduced, having Serenity cost even less would go further to promote Chakra: Serenity as a reliable, mana efficient, single target healing state that may make us more competitive as tank healers.

Make State Of Mind An Emergency Cooldown (i.e. Nature’s Swiftness)

Resto druids and shaman both have Nature’s Swiftness, although the druid version comes with an added benefit. Discipline priests have Inner Focus and paladins have Divine Favor, which gives them a temporary boost to their haste and critical strike rating. The only real cooldown that holy priests have is Guardian Spirit and it does nothing to boost our speed or improve our reaction time to something bad that might be happening. Granted, we do have a lot of spells in our arsenal that are instant cast or could help make us cast faster (i.e. Serendipity), but I can’t help but think we could use something along these lines, too.

What do you think? How would you change State of Mind to something that’s useful to holy priests in the current state of things? Do you feel it’s already useful as it stands right now?
