A high school student asked his girlfriend for her hand in marriage in 2018

Sometimes, there are two events that a girl looks forward to in her life: prom night, and tying the knot with their soulmate. Both involve flowers, getting dressed up, celebrating with friends and proposing to that special someone.

“If you have an epic prom proposal, will you be comparing your marriage proposal to it years later?” Engagement 101 had to comment on the subject.

What’s the difference between asking your S.O to prom and getting down on one knee to ask your S.O. for their hand in marriage? Let’s compare the timelines between the two:

Promposal timeline:

1. Find out what your soon to be prom date likes and dislikes.

2. See if you can get your friends, or, if you’re bold enough and your date loves the attention, the whole school in on it, like this one high school student did.

3. Make a poster and buy balloons, flowers, a teddy bear, their favorite food, a puppy or even a promise ring!

4. Pop the question and celebrate afterwards!

YouTubers Brooklyn and Bailey and Jaclyn Angle have handfuls of promposal ideas, while TheTalko counts down 10 of the craziest, and most adorable promposals.

Pro tip: Google 'promposal ideas' and you wil 100% guranteed be in promposal heaven.

Now, let’s compare that with the marriage proposal timeline, some of these tips are courtesy of Engagement Ring Bible, who said, “Follow this, and you **should** have a flawless plan ready to execute by the time P-Day (Proposal Day) arrives.”

1. Ask her parents first.

2. Start saving up on the ring of her dreams.

3. Find out how you’re gonna pop the question (Pro tip: google ‘marriage proposals’

4. If you want, get her friends and family on it!

5. Get on one knee, pop the question and celebrate afterwards! (Take ring selfies, grab the champagne and toast to your new life!)

Bonus tip: Make sure her nails are done and make sure family and friends are hiding & recording, so you can watch it in the future or at your wedding! Also, if you need extra help, there’s proposal planners such as Who Can Forget, The Heart Bandits, The Yes Girls and more.

Inspiration tip: After 4 years of dating his best friend, YouTuber Kornelius Bascombe got down on one knee and asked his lover for her hand in marriage, which she gladly accepted.

Regardless of what type of proposing you do, best of luck either way!
