"Be the change you want to see in the world."

  -  Mahatma Gandhi

On the auspicious occasion of Gandhi Jayanti, let's take a pledge to follow the principles laid by Gandhi Ji. His ideals of non-violence and communal harmony are still an inspiration for many around the world. Tributes to the father of Nation on his birth anniversary!

Gandhi Ji is not an individual,  he is an age, a legacy, an inspiration, a sect of thought and a real Mahatma. Even after 74 years of his death, he remains the most widely known political leader of India. He was a major historical figure who showed a mirror to the Britishers that they could not order him about in his own country. His unparalleled historical and political stature is confirmed by his successful non-violent movement against the British rule in India. Gandhi's thoughts are still relevant and meaningful. His political legacy and philosophical thoughts are an inspiration to millions of people around the globe. People follow his footprints to fight against inequality, injustice and historical wrongs.

Gandhi's politics was entwined with the practical day-to-day problems of the millions. He worked upon the moral growth of the humanity. His was not a loyalty to abstractions; it was a loyalty to living, human beings. For example, the Champaran movement didn't begin as an act of defiance; it grew out of an attempt to alleviate the distress of large numbers of poor peasants. It was the typical Gandhian pattern. In everything Gandhi did, he tried to mould a new free Indian who could stand on his own feet and make India free. He taught a lesson in self-reliance. Self-reliance, Champaran movement and Indian independence were all bound together. This characteristic of Gandhi distinguishes him from all the politicians of modern world.

“The greatness of humanity is not in being human, but in being humane.”

                          -  Mahatma Gandhi

Gandhi Ji had a great sense of simplicity and honesty which is rarely found in present day politicians. If you read Gandhi, you will find him as a complete lesson of political maturity. His political lessons are an ethical imperative for the world which is suffering from an immaturity of politics and politicians today, either in tyrannical situations in Afghanistan, Myanmar, Syria, etc. or in democracies like United States, Spain, Poland, India, etc. Infact, Gandhi believed in no divorce between politics and ethics. Politics was an ethical mode of conduct for him. His philosophy of life was based on truth and non-violence. He contributed to the idea of non-violent resistance, sometimes also called civil resistance. The two pillars of Gandhism are truth and non-violence.

“Nonviolence is a weapon of the strong.”

                            - Mahatma Gandhi

Gandhi Ji was an embodiment of "patience ". His culture of patience is rooted in epistemic humility as a necessary method to understand other cultures and religions. His whole realm of politics and religion revolves around this concept. Gandhi was a practitioner of empathetic humanism. He believed that every individual had the right to self-governance, irrespective of religion, race and culture. Self-governance was a space of self-realization and politics an experimentation with truth. Gandhi considered freedom as an ethical expertise, not a mere political endeavour. He sought for truth in politics.

Gandhi Ji believed in building such a character where one has an authority over oneself. He reflected upon maturity that is a state of mind and a mode of being where one had the capacity to create oneself in a social sphere. In this way, he meant to promote self-respect and self-restraint. He believed that egotism leads to incivility while nobility develops a sense of self-respect together with civility. That is why Gandhi's appeal to mature and ethical politics along with nobility of spirit continues to be a strong response to today's political issues and challenges of life. Gandhi will remain an inspiration for us and for everyone in this world.

“A man is but the product of his thoughts. What he thinks, he becomes.”

                            - Mahatma Gandhi

Let's follow his footprints and be enlightened!

Let's be of some service to the mankind!
