If there's anything I've learned in my 28 years of life it's that Loneliness is brutal. Have you ever lay in bed and wished you had someone to talk to or someone to laugh at whatever you were watching with you? We've all had those moments haven't we? Well if you have you're not alone. I've certainly had those moments in life and I still do. I have those moments at least 3 days a week if not more. Now this presents us with an opportunity here. You can either dwell on the loneliness which is tempting believe me! And if you need to have a good cry because you're lonely that's nothing to be ashamed of. In fact I've had those nights as well!

OR you can use this time of loneliness to get to know yourself. You can use this time to figure what it is that you want in life or from someone else. It will be difficult of course and you will have nights of tears and pain from being lonely and that's normal! But the point is that you're getting to know yourself on a deeper level. And this is useful because you can use this knowledge when you get into a new relationship with someone. You'll know what you will/won't accept or will/won't settle for.

You'll know what you like and don't like. You'll know yourself better then anyone. See I know it sounds beyond cliche but you need to know yourself better then anyone. You can't necessarily depend on someone else to protect you 24/7. Sometimes you have to protect yourself. You need to be able to depend on yourself. Yours is the only heart you'll have for life. You've had your heart your whole life. Knowing yourself better then anyone is essential.

How long will it take to know yourself? Well honestly it will take your whole life. You never stop getting to know yourself. Nobody ever stops getting to know themselves. The one lesson you need to learn during this period of loneliness is that you need to be okay alone. You can't always expect someone else to be there for you. You can't always expect someone to protect you. You have to do it yourself. This may sound depressing and I understand why you'd think that. But it's probably the most important lesson you'll ever learn.

And when you do learn these lessons you'll understand and appreciate the lonely nights and days. You'll understand why you had to learn to be okay alone. Sure it would be lovely to always have someone by your side but if that's always the case then honestly you lose the ability to take care of yourself and pick yourself up. This will make you stronger. You wouldn't have gotten that strength if you spent every minute with someone by your side. You have to learn to be okay alone.

It's difficult I know, but as I've said earlier it's an important lesson to learn. You need to learn these lessons and when you do you'll be grateful. Taking time for you is a gift. This gift is the ability to know yourself better then anyone else. It's a gift to have a strength to keep going in times of adversity. It's a gift that you could've only gotten if you've taken the time alone to get to know yourself.

Sometimes hard times reveal the greatest gifts. Sometimes the pain has a rainbow at the end. And sometimes if you're real patient you may just find the right person for you. But this only happens if you take this time to know you.
