Letting go is brutal, especially when bittersweet memories play in your head like an annoying clip show. But you have to do it. You have to do it in order to heal. You can't hold on to the past, no matter how many times those memories play in your head. No matter how much you want to hold on to the memories you remember all too well. (As my favorite artist Taylor swift would say) You have to let go of them in order to find better people and things in your life. You can't stay in the past forever, you can't hold on to people that aren't meant to be in your life any longer. You have to accept that sometimes relationships or situations have a shelf life. People come into your life for a reason and then sometimes they have to leave. It's not up to us. We have to realize that.

Letting go is brutal when you can't quite figure out what went wrong, you can't quite figure out who did or said what. You can't quite figure out if there was anything anyone could've done differently. Maybe there was or maybe there wasn't. Maybe it was just meant to happen that way. Who knows. But now you're left with the daunting task of letting go. Letting go of something you thought was going to be around forever. Letting go of plans, goals and paint colors. Letting go of it all.

Or letting go could be the easiest thing in the world. It could be like ripping off a bandaid. It could be amazing. It could be healing. It could be the medicine you need to feel better. The process of letting go could either way and be really simple and fast OR it could be the most difficult thing in the world. Either way it's necessary in the process of moving on. You can't hold on to the past. Moving on to the next chapter is essential to your well being.

You can remember the past of course, you can look back and either laugh or cringe. I'm not saying the past isn't important, but moving on is important as well. It isn't about who was right or wrong, it's about moving forward. We all do things we're not proud of but in the end we have to move on. We all make mistakes and we all have regrets. We can't be proud of everything we do. It's a balance of life.

Sometimes moving on is our only choice, sometimes we have to cut our losses and run. Sometimes we can't hold on to things no matter how well we remember them. No matter how bittersweet the memories are and no matter how many times a day they play in our heads like an annoying clip show.

How can you move on if you haven't let go? How can you see what the universe has in store for you if you can't move on? How can you find your best self if you can't move on? It's never easy to move on but it's necessary. You have to do it. You have to take the leap and even though it could be just about the scariest thing in the world to do, you have to do it. It may hurt and may feel like ripping off a band-aid but you have to do it. How can you read the next chapter of your life if you keep going back to the previous chapters? How can you? Well that answer is so very very simple and fair. You can't.
