Don't Be Judgemental — A Song Dedicated To My Dear Past Self

Why do we humans judge people, including judging ourselves?

We all judge. We are predisposed to this natural tendency; it is part of human nature. ~ The Times of India

‘Though we judge for many reasons, we often do it when:

1. We don’t know a person well (yet)

2. We cannot identify with a person’s belief system, values, or behavior

3. That person somehow threatens how we perceive ourselves

In most cases, we judge others in order to feel better about ourselves, because we are lacking self-acceptance and self-love.

If we could learn to embrace ourselves as we truly are, would we still be so judgmental toward others? Most likely not. We would no longer need a reason to put someone else down just to raise ourselves up.

This is only one of the many reasons why self-love is so important and powerful. If we could all learn to love ourselves, we would make our world a much more compassionate and much less judgmental place.’

~ Martina Weiss in Tiny Buddha

So how do we deal with this negative trait of human nature?

1. Be Curious. We can remain in curiosity, knowing that there is something about the situation that we may not fully understand.

2. Be Empathetic. Let us be empathetic and give the benefit of the doubt to others for their situation or the circumstances that may not be in our full awareness.

3. Be Self-Aware. Practice being self-aware through self-forgiveness, self-acceptance, and self-compassion. The more we understand ourselves, the more we can understand others; knowing our tendencies will help us assess fairly, patiently, and compassionately.

This song described my past in an artistic way. It still makes my eyes rain sometimes whenever I heard this song. Pink’s powerful voice has illustrated and sung out the emotions deep in my heart.

God knows how difficult it was to ‘dug my way out’ from the hardships, after a few major setbacks that made me look like a joke.

I was always being misunderstood throughout my life, but I’m still standing tall today, getting better, and charging forward. I’m not perfect in other people’s eyes but I accept and embrace my imperfection.

I realized the damage of negative self-talk to myself years later.

It made the challenges and complex relationships even more complicated. I was tired of all those games full of negative energy! It drained my energy.

“I already had enough of that nonsense! I’ll defeat the demons in me and live my life the way I want it!” I told myself.

“Critics, please make way! If you don’t like me it’s your business! I never did any harm to you! I may be nothing to you but I’m fine in my eyes! You don’t know the full story of my life and stop judging me!”

“Be kind. For everyone you meet is fighting a battle you know nothing about.” ~ Ian MacLaren

“Perfect” by Pink

(Partial/Clean Version)

Made a wrong turn, once or twice

Dug my way out, blood and fire

Bad decisions, that’s alright

Welcome to my silly life

Mistreated, misplaced, misunderstood

Miss no way it’s all good, it didn’t slow me down

Mistaken, always second guessing

Underestimated, look I’m still around

Pretty, pretty please

If you ever, ever feel

Like you’re nothing

You are perfect

To me

You’re so mean (You’re so mean, When you talk (When you talk)

About yourself, you were wrong, Change the voices

Change the voices in your head in your head

Make them like you instead

So complicated, look how we all make it

Filled with so much hatred, such a tired game

It’s enough, I’ve done all I can think of

Chased down all my demons, I’ve seen you do the same, oh

The whole world’s scared so I swallow the fear

The only thing I should be drinking is an ice-cold beer

So cool in lying and we try, try, try but we try too hard

And it’s a waste of my time

Done looking for the critics, ’cause they’re everywhere

They don’t like my jeans, they don’t get my hair

Exchange ourselves and we do it all the time

Why do we do that, why do I do that, why do I do that?
