Divine Masculine and Divine Feminine

With all of the information on “divine feminine” and “divine masculine,” it can be a little overwhelming to get a grasp on what these terms actually mean. More importantly, you may be wondering the importance of these two now popular terms. Well, you don’t need to look any further. I strongly believe this post will answer many, if not all, of your questions.

What is divine feminine and masculine?

The divine feminine is the energy that represents the purest, most powerful feminine expression. Conversely, divine masculine is the energy that represents the purest, most powerful masculine expression. These two energies make up everything. From nature, objects, animals, and humans to actions, thoughts, and ways of being. Divine feminine and divine masculine are symbolic, archetypal, psychological, and physical. These energies reside in all humans and although some people will say that each person has an equal amount of masculine and feminine energies, I actually beg to differ. From my understanding, males are more likely to be masculine energy dominant and females more feminine energy dominant at this point in time.

Divine Masculine and Divine Feminine VS Yin and Yang

I want to emphasize this point in time, because the soul has the infinite capacity to hold both energies. But as it is, humans incarnated on earth have either more masculine energy or more feminine energy. This is usually symbolized and represented by a difference in physical bodies. Male-bodied individuals are usually masculine dominant. While female-bodied individuals are usually feminine dominant. A quote from Sri Namaste Moore explains this in a beautiful, coherent manner :

Again I must reiterate that we make a strong distinction in this time and age between Masculine and Feminine and yin and yang. While we all have both yin and yang energy active and moving within us – the vast majority of humans (over 98%) are oriented in EITHER Masculine essence or Feminine essence.

It is, from my understanding, a bit of a misconception to think of having a balance between the masculine and feminine energies within us. If this were the case, humans would have no need for two separate sexes. Instead, the divine masculine has both yang and yin within him. And the divine feminine has both yin and yang within her.

A great example of this is given by Jared Osborne from the blog Embodying Man in his post, “Men aren’t Yang, Women aren’t Yin”:

The lover is deeply receptive to his woman (Yin) so he can take her at just the right moment (Yang).

This statement describes how a man, usually masculine energy dominant, can express yin and yang. Yin and yang need to be balanced because they are relative to each other. Divine masculine and divine feminine energy can stand alone.

What are the qualities of the divine feminine?

The divine feminine is playful, nurturing, relationship-driven, and beauty-drawn. She is also creative, receptive, and focused on her state of being rather than doing. This is by no means an extensive list. The divine feminine has many qualities. But for now, I’ll focus on the ones I have listed. I’d like to break these qualities down one by one as there is a lot to unpack within each of them.

Playful

The feminine is not rigid, instead, she is easygoing and flows with nature. This brings about a child-like (not childish) playfulness that the feminine thrives in. In human terms, this could be expressed as being giggly, very bubbly, and being light-hearted.

Nurturing

The feminine has a natural inclination to take care of the things and beings that she loves and/or feels emotionally called to. She’s inclined to energetically pour herself into them so that they may feel fulfilled. The feminine uses gentleness, understanding, warmth, and love to accomplish the feeling of having successfully fulfilled the needs of her loved ones.

Relationship-Driven

The feminine is very much concerned with her relationships. They are the most important aspect of life in the eyes of the feminine. She desires good relationships with her family, friends, and children. A genuine, loving romantic relationship is also important to her.

Beauty-drawn

The feminine both embodies beauty and wants to surround and adorn herself with beauty. Beauty is the domain of the feminine and she relishes in the energetic wave of beauty. This is why many women, now and historically, love makeup, beautiful clothes, beautiful accessories, flowers, and etc. But this doesn’t only pertain to beauty on the physical level. The feminine is drawn to beautiful experiences, revels in beautiful memories, and loves beautiful ideas, character, people, music, art, and etc.

The masculine also loves beauty, just a bit differently. Beauty motivates the masculine into action. He uses it as an escape and as a refuge.

Creative

The feminine is creative energy. She loves to create as a means of self-expression. The feminine creates to understand herself. The physical symbol of the feminine being creative is the ability of women to bear children. This in itself reveals the innate creative quality of the divine feminine.

Receptive

The feminine is most powerful when she receives rather than gives. The feminine is often skilled in receptivity. In human terms, this often translates into being a good listener and handling the emotions of others well. People are often taught to understand the feminine’s receptive qualities by observing the ocean. A vast body of water receives everything. From aquatic animals, bodies of humans, to even trash. The ocean takes it all in. But everyone can recognize how powerful the ocean really is. It has the potential to cause mass destruction by way of a hurricane or tsunami. It also has the ability to drown something or someone. No one would say that the ocean isn’t powerful, and yet, it is completely receptive. This is the nature of the divine feminine.

Focused on the state of being

Last but not least, the feminine is more focused on her state of being rather than what she is simply doing. The feminine’s value is in who she is rather than what she does. In fact, to the feminine, what she does is just a byproduct of who she is. I should mention that there are many other, more obvious, qualities that belong to the divine feminine. This includes understanding, emotion, intuition, and sensuality.

What are the qualities of the Divine Masculine?

The divine masculine is the opposite of the divine feminine. He’s focused, providing, protecting, purpose-driven, analytical, forward, and focused on action. This again is not an extensive list but I have mentioned and will explain key qualities of the divine masculine.

Focused

Contrary to the feminine, the masculine is extremely focused. He has the ability to laser focus on a target and tune everything else out. In human terms, this could look like having tunnel vision.

Providing and Protecting

The masculine is known for his ability and inclination to both provide and protect. He provides for and protects the ones he loves, has connections with, and/or those who he deems as weaker than himself. It is not a coincidence, nor sexist, that most superheroes are male. Its purpose, instead, is to highlight the masculine’s innate ability to provide and protect. The natural physical strength and endurance males naturally have is a symbol of this innate quality.

Purpose Driven

The masculine is almost always concerned with his purpose, whatever that may be. Contrary to the feminine, the masculine will often put his purpose above his relationships. Unless his purpose involves a relationship. For instance, if a man feels called to be a great father. Then, naturally, he would be most focused on his relationships with his children.

Analytical

The masculine values intellect and rationality over emotionality. The masculine has to make sense out of things or he will analyze it until it does. In human terms, this looks like being in his head all the time and wanting to solve problems.

Action Driven

Unlike the feminine, the masculine is more focused on action than simply being. Taking action is like a superpower for the masculine in that it helps him feel like he is progressing and to feel of value.

Can a woman have masculine energy?

Yes, a woman can have masculine energy. This is because the energy inherent within us can be irrespective of gender. But divine masculine energy should not be confused with yang. That said, our physical bodies are often symbols of the energy within us. A good rule of thumb for understanding your own essence is to recognize what feels good to you. If it feels genuinely natural for you to express masculine traits and qualities as a woman, then perhaps your dominant energy is masculine. However, if you are simply exhibiting masculine qualities because you feel like you have to or because feminine qualities make you uncomfortable… Perhaps, you are simply hiding from your true nature.

Can a man have feminine energy?

Yes, I have mentioned above that the body is not a definite sign of what energy someone is dominant in. There are always anomalies. But again, it all depends on what feels natural to you. If you are a man and expressing feminine traits makes you feel good and feels natural, then perhaps your dominant energy is feminine. But if you are expressing feminine traits because you feel emasculated or out of touch with your masculinity, you need to reconnect with masculine behaviors/traits.

How do you awaken divine feminine energy?

In short, divine feminine energy awakens through relaxing into your being, developing a sense of playfulness, and enjoying life’s wonders. There are many women who’ve become disconnected from their feminine energy. This is mainly because of their life circumstances and/or emotional state. For instance, if a woman is always stressed because of her job or having a lack of money, this puts her in a state of uneasiness. This uneasiness often breeds action and the need to be analytical. If this state is held for a long time, it starts to have adverse effects. This is because it is the opposite of what feminine energy represents. Ultimately, it is not difficult to call feminine energy forth if that is your dominant energy. Most of the battle is a psychological game. How do you awaken divine masculine energy?

In short, divine masculine energy awakens through intentional, heart-led action and service. It is quite different from the feminine. While the feminine thrives in understanding and relaxing into her own being, the masculine thrives in doing. This is how the masculine understands itself. It’s where the masculine’s true power is realized. That said, it is often detrimental when the masculine is not taking action. It limits his potential exponentially and usually leaves the masculine feeling of little worth and importance.

Concluding Thoughts & Summary on Divine Masculine and Divine Feminine

The divine masculine and the divine feminine are the strongest and purest expressions of masculine and feminine energy. In human form, these two energies manifest as man and woman respectively. Although this is common for man and woman to be the physical manifestation of the divine masculine and divine feminine, there are exceptions to this. That is, a man can be more feminine dominant and a woman more masculine dominant. But this is usually not the rule.

The feminine and masculine though very different are completely complementary to each other. And regardless of how they materialize, divine masculine and divine feminine are always drawn to each other. This is the design of the Creator and if you ask me, a very beautiful expression of love and connection.

Both divine masculine and feminine come forth through the human when the individual stops resisting their own nature. These energies are waiting to be expressed through the individual whenever the path is clear for them to do so. And when these energies are fully expressed, the power that it grants its avatar is unmistakable.
