Looking at YouTube and seeing videos of developmentally delayed children with severe autism and feeling shocked how the parents use their disability to make a profit.I am not going to mention certain names of YouTubers. It makes me sick they exploit their children’s meltdowns and lowest moments to put up on Youtube for the whole world to see and have a lot of able bodied parents and carers to comment. It’s horrible and inappropriate to see. Do not put your need for money over putting a video that may offend a group of neurodivergent people. Imagine yourself as severely autistic and non verbal not being able to consent yourself being filmed mostly a few days a week or every day. It’s better to make income somewhere else , instead of exploiting your severely autistic child on YouTube. I was on a reddit form about a YouTube channel and a person who has a mild form of autism and put herself in the severely autistic teenager shoes ,thinking it was A invasion of her privacy

.I commented back and agreed. It’s okay for a person who have a disabilities explain themselves on YouTube and talking about ableism like you are listening to a podcast or a ted talk. Also explaining about what assumptions people think about their disabilities. I remember in primary school my support teacher besides the teacher in the class was making a presentation about my cochlear implants. I did not appreciate them talking about it and making a presentation. I was like 10 years old. I remember they were showing a girl in primary school struggling to hear her teacher without a FM system and made her hear more clearer with the FM system. To remind you all this does not work this way .

I remember at the end of the day at school I eventually felt tired and worn-out from auditory fatigue. Even though I heard sound better via FM system , the speaking was too fast for me. This happened again in 2014, when learning support staff did an introduction about my cochlear implant and how it works and tried to do it behind my back if I didn’t agree with them. I felt uncomfortable and awkward . I felt frustrated but at the same time I did not mind. Eventually I agreed anyways because there was no point arguing with an adult when you are a high schoolstudent . They did not explain the cons of using a cochlear implant besides claiming it’s amazing biotechnology.

It’s Important for the person with a disability to explain themselves. I think they should have a chance to explain themselves better when they reach adulthood.Able bodied people can make quick judgements about their disability. Remember I read that deaf people have a bad short term memory ? This is because of too much spoken instructions and the brain works twice to remember them. Some native Auslan users who do not understand English properly can only understand Auslan properly and may use broken English grammar especially speaking via text or Facebook messenger.

For myself I cannot understand fast paced spoken English properly because I have severe hearing loss.I tend to understand written English properly. People with disabilities shouldn’t be used as movie or TV show characters for inspiration. Because if they hire an able bodied person to play a disabled character they may portray the character wrong. For example hiring a hearing person play a deaf character , a NT person playing an autistic character or a person who is not in a wheelchair to play a person who has a physical disability.

Marlee and Nyle in America are good actors overseas , and David Grant is very good actor here locally in Australia. They are always advocating to have more disabled actors play disabled characters in the screen and media. While , these disabled actors get turned down roles to play a disabled character as they may not agree with the producer or the writer. Netflix shows such as Atypical and the good doctor revolts me because they are portraying autism in the wrong light in screen and media. When they should consult with that type of community first. People who are physically disabled are not shown in the entertainment industry , and often played by non disabled people. For example , the may show a person with MS in a wheelchair or something similar to that condition .

Every person who has MS is different and have different types ,when able bodied people assume they will have no choice but to be in a wheelchair. Please let a person with MS explain it to you. I have a guy friend with MS and explained to me this isn’t always the case. I remember my father Liam climbing Mount Everest to raise money for my deaf school and the local newspaper in the Hills district wanted me to take a photo with my father with his mountain gear. A week later in class in year 5 the newspaper ended up being on my year 5 teacher desk. Everyone wanted to see it and they swarmed around my teacher like sharks. I feel it was inspiration porn because sometimes able bodied people are hypocrites supporting a disabled person and being A ally then making ableist remarks or agreeing on ableist comments they receive from other people.

I remember telling my dad in the car about a comment I received by a ex friend of mine . The ex friend of mine said to me when I was year 5 “no-one will want to play with you because you are deaf “ . My dad said “ Yes , that’s true”. I am not making my dad look bad but he always have an unfiltered personality. Parents can be there for you always but if you are an adult and you don’t see eye to eye to them about things then I think it’s better to limit contact and talk less instead of cutting off contact for a long time. It’s better that way.

I told my mum and she shocked he agreed and was shocked I remembered that comment from memory.Sometimes I do not remember things straightway , it takes me a decade or a few years to remember them. I felt bullied. My mum thought this friend was a nice person. Let’s call her Bernadette. She gave me a best friend necklace in 2007. In my opinion I think best friend necklaces are a load of bullshit . I do not need to have a best friend.

Bernadette was a quiet girl and excelled in religious studies at school. Her parents were nice people. Half of the girls that you invited to parties in your childhood are not really friends.Even in high school too. Trust me you will realise this in adulthood. In adulthood you will learn more about friendships and how you want to be respected or treated.Girls can betray you and backstab you at every turn.
