Season one of warriors we are introduced to a character named Ah Sam Who is fresh off the boat and landed in San Francisco. Where is is based on the writings of Bruce Lee if you’re not familiar with the show. The show is set in the 1800s right before the Chinese exclusion act the culture of the show revolves around the California gold rush and the first trans continental railroad, which during the time as gold became scarce white Americans became angry with foreigners for finding any gold. That resentment towards the Chinese actually lead to the Rocksprings massacre of 1885 and HEALTH Canyon massacre of 1887.

The show address of the struggles of people of color in America. You get to see sick Chinese workers working themselves to death. The language and dialogue is delicately written to draw the view were in especially with the use of the term Cooley which is actually an Anglo Indian word that supposed to mean burden bearer or bitter work.

Ah Sam Who is played by Andrew Koji he’s fighting with him down a journey where he is sold by Wang Chau played by HOOn lee, And joins the tongs with father Jun. he meets Ah Toy Who is a Real person but she is played by Olivia Chang. The original ah toy was a notorious Madame and on one of the times that her brothel was rated in court she said “she didn’t understand why she was rated because she was cooking rice with chopsticks“that was her excuse. The whole purpose behind the protagonist is because he wants to find his sister mai long who is played by Dianne Doan. He becomes friends with young June who is played by Jason Tobin who is always looking to get sticky and scrap.

You also have the Irish police with Bill O’Hara played by Kieran Bew Who is a complex character that has created his own tribulations through his addiction to gambling he is partnered with Richard Lee who is played by Tom Weston Jones who’s always trying to do the right thing and trying escape the past that is still haunting him. You also have Dean Jagger playing the role of Dylan Leary who is one of the many antagonist to Ah Sam. He shows a clear hatred towards the Chinese because they are taking jobs from what he considers to be good Americans. His character is filled with consistent rage that never ends during the entire season.

Mai ling travels down the dark path of resentment towards her brother and begins to create and expand on the tongue wars. Which if you’re looking for a good read check the book the hatchet man by Richard Dillon. Her brother does everything he can to make up for not saving her before but the choice of the past is what destroys the sibling connection. The more ambitious she becomes the darker she becomes. She is trying to regain the power she lost in China. Their sibling connection begins to truly sever when the only way to solve the war that she has created is My having a duel between the different families of Chinatown and her brother loses. She gives a nodd to have her lover kill him but the Irish cops who have grown to like him a little bit step in.

The show is not shy about the corruption of the police, the government taking advantage of the Chinese the blacks and the Native Americans and you see how that setting affects the characters. The season ends with Ah Sam losing the fight and it seems that is much more difficult for him in comparison to if he had died. He’s rejected by father June for losing.

Besides the cinematography I also appreciate the dialogue and how well it was written in season one. I also enjoyed the fight scenes and the mysteriously yet intriguing yet still growing in depth of the characters development. I also enjoyed their introduction to which characters speak English and which characters are speaking Cantonese without providing subtitles for you to read at the bottom.

Now for season two we can expect Mai Ling to continue to be running Chinatown as her heart has desired. She still continues to demand her respect regardless of how she feels she has to obtain it and that is with an iron hand. Our lead protagonist makes his way back to father June but he has his own personal agenda. The leading plot for season two revolves around the selfish and irresponsible choices between the two siblings in the lives who are caught in between their personal sibling rivalry.

There a new characters like Hong he’s actually my personal favorite. We also get to meet the mayor’s wife Penny sister Sophie, Dylan Larry is still raging but we also learned of a different side of him. We meet Vega who I think is pretty cool. Season two also dives into the personal lives of the characters and their relationships for example by episode two wang Chau is one of the lies that they dive into. You learn how to break up between Penny and ah Sam is slowly eating them alive. You also begin to see a more attempt from father June to be more patient and parental like when dealing with young June who is simply itching to scrap with mai ling.

If we refer to season one officer Lee gets a crap beat out of him because of Bill O’Hara and his dealings with the fung hai. The beating he received changed his character and you begin to see him go down a path that is a little unsuspecting. Bill continues his fight with the fung hai. We learn of ah toys heart and when I say that I mean what truly motivates her as a person. By episode six for all the action fans you continue to see more fighting but in this particular episode you will see different styles of fighting. They even pay homage to enter the dragon with certain characters as well as having Andrew koji coaching take on the look that Bruce Lee had with the scratch marks.

I can tell by episode six but the fights are more fun and the actors had a lot of fun making the second season. I am only up to episode seven which I have not finished but I am very curious to watching the last three episodes to find out exactly how does the sibling rivalry end. You can also look forward to young June always looking to get sticky with a new lady. I was looking forward to seeing the Native American woman that he was in love with but I have not seen her yet. There are some characters I wish I had a little bit more depth to them and that is only because i’ve certain decisions that they make but I can’t reveal that just yet. I have not been disappointed by the season at all six episodes in and I definitely think it is worth the watch be sure to tune in.
