#BreakTheBias is the theme for this year’s International Women’s Day. So, this year’s theme is about encouraging everyone to develop a greater understanding of gender bias and to be more aware of its existence.

#BreakTheBias

When it comes to knowing how gender plays an important part in our lives; everyone must understand the importance of equality.

In the first place, this year’s theme is taking a different approach in the movement to empower women across the globe to be open to change.

Indeed, change comes from the inside.

In my opinion; this is a great campaign.

Hence, differences should be valued.

Let’s create change!

Moreover, each individual is responsible for our own actions and thoughts.

How to Create Change to Break the Bias

Of course, not everyone has accepted the importance of living in a world without inclusion. Whether we want to admit it or not; we have all seen various biases in our life. In fact, this impacts many people.

Indeed, the best way to eliminate any type of biases is the following.

In the first place, it is important that everyone you work with is aware of how to identify anything they see or encounter.

Is there anything you have encountered?

More importantly, it is essential to be proactive in getting rid of any type of bias.

Meanwhile, if you play a part in hiring or work in Human Resources; it is essential that you don’t let any personal opinions impact your decisions.

For example, many women have been discouraged through their career from applying for certain positions. Of course, this should not take place.

At the same time; it is essential that no candidate is judged blindly. With that being said; it is essential to hire based on qualifications.

Hence, bring diversity into your network and workplace. Whereas, it is important that every workplace have diversity and inclusion policies in place.

#Break the Bias in our Community

When it comes to our community; each of us can make a positive change in our community.

So, if you’re like me and hope to make a difference in the world; there are several things you can do. However, if you aren’t sure what to do; I have a few tips on where you should begin.

Be neighborly! Introduce yourself to someone in your neighborhood. Sometimes, something as simple as saying “Hello” regularly or smiling is a great way to make someone’s day.

Of course, each of us has an opinion.

Use your voice!

An easy way to contribute is to attend a forum or a town meeting.

Vote! Check out my November 3 is the Most Important Election in our Lifetime post. Though voting isn’t only about every 4 years; it’s also about local elections.

Volunteer!

By giving your time to help others in your community; you are providing skills to help others. For example, organize a clothing or food drive helps tremendously.

Finally, if you are looking to make a change in your community; you can start by joining various committees.

Also, be proactive in various happenings in your city or town.

Change is Needed

Similarly to other International Women’s Day themes; this years theme is to continue to have people worldwide understand and commit to helping women move ahead.

Let’s imagine a world that is diverse, equitable and inclusive.

At the same time; action is needed to level the playing field.

So, are you in?

Will you actively try to create change for discrimination and gender bias?

Strike the Pose

In the meantime, women will be showing their support by striking the official #BreakTheBias pose.

Also, encourage your colleagues and friends to join the cause.

So, cross your arms to show solidarity.

Of course, together each of us can break the bias on International Women’s Day and after.

Also, make sure you celebrate extraordinary women year-around.
