In this world, during this time

It’s hard to keep it in my mind

That life has many different phases

Were aching going through the changes

Look closely at the faces

There is so much more than color

Deeper meanings to our pride

More than value to the dollar

We’re fighting for our lives

Just one more day to stay alive

When will we understand

We’re holding hearts here in our hands

And they’re still beating

We have Blood on our clothes

But we’re callous of feelings

We all hurt the same

And the time is fleeting

To realize

Our hearts have teeth

We see our pain

But can’t see yours

Demand our rights

And words be heard

We act like freedom is a given

But death is the price that’s paid

Why are we blind to see our vision

React to comments someone made

Happy to deepen our division

The balance of justice never weighed

We are the ones to make a stand

The ones to change the past

Stand together, hand in hand

Build a future made to last

One that is deaf can’t hear the hate

Sees truth, yet, colorblind

Because “WE” is what it’s gonna take

For your life and for mine

To be as it was meant to be

A colorful work of art

A grand design in the land of the free

With one United heart ❤️ 🧡💛💚💙💜🖤🤍🤎

But as nice as that all sounds, we aren't coming together...We are holding fast to platforms that at best, worked for a time..a time when the world was different, smaller, simpler...that time is past.

We need a better solution, a calm amidst this chaotic terrifying never seeming to rest monster that has somehow crawled under our skin and into our minds and made us less human, or should I dare say humane? We have morphed into this creature that consumes data and the energy that it sources that only serves to deepen and strengthen our stance against any and everyone else who might dare to have a differing idea, to empower the one and only way...MY WAY!!!

We are callous and blind, selfish and stingy, hopeful for change but unwilling to take the steps necessary to make a change. When did we forget how to listen? When did we forget love and compassion and the undeniable overwhelming power that comes from one act of kindness? Are we too far gone, can we be saved, is it too late

Are you scared? Are you challenged? Are you excited? Are you complacent?

There are so many things going on today...The pandemic, the vaccine, the economy, the riots, the hatred, the racism, the division like a lot of us have never seen before, at least in our own backyards, families torn a part and forced to visit through glass, loved ones dying alone and being buried with little to no celebration of life. We are experiencing moments of sheer terror and separation. We wait each day to hear what kind of day tomorrow rill be from the media and tv, we have nearly stopped thinking for ourselves, waiting for our next command off of CNN or any other national news outlet, My friends, normalcy is no more

So what do we do? What can we do?

Honestly, and not wanting to be trivial, but you can change you...and I need to change me.

We have absolutely no control over ANY thing else, as much as we would like to think we can, or are!

Let me reassure you, there is absolutely nothing we cannot do or accomplish if we stop, take a breath and realize, we are in this thing together. No matter how much money you make, or don't make, no matter what your house looks like or what kind of car you drive...we all take breath from the same sky, the same air that fills my lungs also keeps you alive...it is NOT too late!

My goal is also my challenge to you. Taking a line from Michael Jackson, I'm gonna make a change for once in my life, it's gonna feel real good, I'm gonna make a difference, gonna make it right...I'm starting with the man in the mirror.

Sounds simple enough.

Open the doors for people, fill someone's parking meter, randomly pay for someone's lunch. Say please and thank you or excuse me. Stop aimlessly moving forward without noticing the person you're passing, stop mumbling under your breath, or screaming at other drivers. Say hello, genuinely ask how someone is, and wait for the answer...Are you making huge strides in changing the world? Probably not, but you may however be changing the path of the person you acknowledged. Angels unaware. Strangers savior, peoples peace, crowd Christian. And in this small act, the world is better.

What ever means you have to lighten the load of another human being...do it! You are not enabling someone in there less than state to lend a hand...hold a chair, smile at that mother with the screaming child...she is overwhelmed, over worked and extremely in need of a kind word and caring gesture. Make it a game to see how many good things you can do in a day, and see how much better you feel. What are you out? Tic toc time? Facebook drama? Frontpage bad news? Pull your nose out of you phone and onto the face of the person across from you...not in a creepy stalker way. But in the way you know you would appreciate.

Come on people...lets change our future. Let's do what they think we won't/can't. Let's bring accountability for our neighbor's and families back. Let's show the world a new USA. One full of compassion and justice. One whose people has it's brother's backs. The way we were intended to be.

My new year resolution is to give of myself. Surrender some of my comforts to ensure that I am not alone in my successes, so as not to be alone in my failures.

When will we understand

We’re holding hearts here in our hands

And they’re still beating

Put on your gloves and let's be gentle.
