Being creative is not so easy, even for artists. Sometimes the creative process and inspiration can be really daunting, while other times creative ideas come easily. A lot of scientific studies talk about what you need to do to increase your creative skills, as well as the positive impact of creative activities on your health and psychological well-being.

If you want to approach life in a creative way, not to run out of ideas and inspiration, here are some ways to increase your creative potential:

Remove Stimulus That Can Steal You

In order to be able to contemplate and appreciate the beauty of art, but also to dedicate yourself to the creative process, it is absolutely essential to remove the things that could steal you.

A study, published in May 2017, found that when we are deprived of creative activity, our ability to experience beauty is diminished.

This research supports the popular statement of the philosopher Immanuel Kant, according to which the contemplation and understanding of artistic beauty require deep and complex thinking.

This is also true when we admire works of art. Today, the biggest source of attention, in art galleries, museums, and exhibition halls, is undoubtedly the mobile phone and other digital devices.

So, next time you go to visit an art lens, seriously consider giving up your cell phone. As difficult as it may be to leave without a photo of you appearing next to the famous Mona Lisa painting, the research results suggest that it is much more productive to admire works of art unaccompanied by a mobile phone.

The latter, according to research, significantly reduces the focus of attention.

Take Ceramics Courses

If you have worked with ceramics at least once, then you will agree that there is something in this medium of artistic expression that is inherently therapeutic.

A study, published in April 2017, found that the process of making a ceramic object contributes to improving mood, motivates and facilitates decision-making among adults with major depressive disorder.

These findings support the claim that clay art therapy can help relieve the symptoms of depression in adults and thus be used as an alternative therapy method for millions of people around the world who suffer from depression.

Sometimes Options for Moments of Loneliness

Loneliness and isolation have been linked in many scientific studies to the negative effects on health, from depression to death.

However, it has been found that people who prefer to spend time alone tend to score high in terms of creativity, according to a study published in November 2017 in the scientific journal Personality and Individual Differences.

Research suggests that motivating a person to avoid social interactions is crucial in understanding the effects of loneliness and not all reasons for social isolation can be negative.

The study also found that shy or antisocial people have low creativity scores, while sociable people who prefer to isolate themselves from time to time have much better results in terms of creativity.

Take Daily Walks

The slightly stereotypical social representation of the artist is quite different from that of an athlete. But creativity and moderate exercise are compatible. A study conducted at Stanford University in 2014 found that walking promotes convergent thinking that includes problem-solving skills, as well as divergent thinking that is related to the formulation of original ideas. Both cognitive processes are closely related to creativity.

Another study found that sports training three or more times a week contributes to a considerable improvement in convergent thinking.

It is mistakenly believed that creative people are productive in messy, crowded, and chaotic workshops, the latter being the ultimate expression of creativity. Marie Kondo, the author of The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up, says the opposite.

“Concentration and respect for work materials, as well as involvement, and cleaning solutions are what can help you be more productive and creative because that way you can remove objects from the workspace and steal them and keep only those that it makes you happy and inspires you ”.

Listen to Inspirational Songs and Dream With Open Eyes

It seems that many of the things you already do contribute to your creative abilities. A recent study, published in 2017, exploded the impact that classical music can have on cognitive processes.

It has been established that listening to classical music is associated with the development of divergent thinking. Another study suggests that daydreaming is directly related to intelligence and creativity.

Color

Adult coloring books, which are thought to have therapeutic benefits, continue to be popular. Are the alleged benefits real? New studies suggest that yes. Thus, adult coloring books can improve mood, reduce anxiety, and distract from negative thoughts.

Research suggests that these coloring books, with their black-and-white drawings waiting to be colored, not only allow you to spend time in a relaxing way, but also help to intensify your state of happiness.

Support the Art in Your Community

It has been found that the presence of art institutions in local communities has a positive impact on people's well-being. A two-year in-depth study was conducted by the School of Social Policy and Practice at the University of Pennsylvania, and the results were published in March 2017.

The study found a positive relationship between the existence of cultural resources in a neighborhood and a high level of education, security, and public health, compared to the inhabitants of other neighborhoods, with limited access to culture and artistic activities.
