Love conquers all

The world as we know it has changed forever . Families all over the world are in lockdown as a precaution against the Coronavirus. Suddenly and without much warning at all , everything that used to drive us and keep us busy doesn’t seem to matter anymore. We are at home , or at least most of us are. Some of us are having to work from home and others cannot work at all. So how are you married folks out there faring? We used to spend more waking hours with our colleagues at work than we ever did overall with our spouses. How is this working out for you? Has this been an easy change for you? How are you coping? Are you finding out or rediscovering your spouse’s annoying habits? Or Are you falling in love all over again? Here are 5 steps that could help you keep calm and stay married.

1. Be grateful. That’s right ! Practice and develop this essential habit. Be thankful that you have each other in this globally challenging time. Keep a gratitude journal if you need to. Think about your day and try to record every kind , thoughtful , caring or romantic gesture that your spouse does . You will be surprised at how much you will begin to notice and appreciate your partner. This way you will also be able to remember the great or romantic things that your partner might have done in the past as you strive hard not to stay angry at them when disagreements and arguments happen.

2. Be present. Be fully present , physically and mentally. If you are reading this on your phone or tablet , look up for a second and observe those around you. Your spouse, your children or your partner are probably on their electronic device as well. Yes this is typical and we are all guilty of this. Spend more time with your spouse and I mean real time. Put your gadgets down. Talk , listen, plan , do new things together and enjoy each day with each other as you are in this together.

3. Exercise and eat well. What is that saying , once on the lips a lifetime on the hips? I struggle with this one too. Have you found that you are eating more than you should? Have you found that all this time at home can lead you to unconsciously eat out of boredom? Find time to exercise either individually or together as this will help you not only to feel great but look great as well.

4. Have time just for yourself . You need this. It could be an hour or even 5 minutes . Centre yourself . Pray , meditate, read , write , listen to music , make a meal for yourself . Anything that will calm and edify you. This will be like clicking a refresh button. Do this regularly. You will thank yourself later.

5. Have sex, sex and more sex. Yes. Go at it like never before! Get creative and inventive. Need I say more? Prioritise this on your daily , weekly , monthly or even hourly agenda as having sex frequently creates an undeniable connection between your spouse and you . Are you always making love in the bedroom ? Well, change it up a little! Have you tried the kitchen? The landing? The closet? Bring the fun back and enjoy a loving and carefree time while you are at it. You have all the time in the world for now.

Well there you have it. 5 steps that could help you stay calm and to stay married to your loving spouse who might be having many questions about their life and purpose which seems to be the effect of time in lockdown. If there was ever a great time to reflect on our lives it is now. So stay in tune with each other. Love , laugh and live!
