In many of our relationships, we celebrate great occasions, and we try to make them memorable by giving special gifts.

Expressing our love is not an easy thing. For many partners, love is the most assumed affair. In many cultures, there is even this misbelief or thought process that, should the love be expressed explicitly?! Just by being a husband or a wife, aren't we already in love, kind of thoughts. To me, expressing our love for each other makes our life and relationship much more beautiful. Expressing our love need not be, always through gifts. It could be through even small acts of care, love, and affection that we have for each other. Like, when our spouse is tired, asking him/her if he/she needs a coffee, asking if he/she needs any help with cooking or domestic chores, and so on.

In this article, I would like to share a few gift ideas to celebrate the occasions you share with your spouse.

Send a surprise gift to your spouse (at work or home)

Your spouse may be a homemaker or a working professional. Sending them a bouquet with a cake and a chocolate box can be a wonderful gift to make their day special.

My wife is an IT testing professional. Once, I had sent a bouquet, cake, and chocolate, to her workplace on her birthday as a surprise gift. When she received it, she felt so happy, and she celebrated her birthday with her colleagues by cutting cake and distributing the chocolates. Thus far, she often remembers that as one of the very memorable birthday gifts that she enjoyed and loved. It may be that when we share our joyful moments with our loved ones (including colleagues and friends at work), our joy grows multifold.

Write a letter or record a message

Writing is not everyone's cup of coffee. While some may find it natural and easy to write, others may find it difficult to express themselves through writing. One could choose their medium of choice that they find comfortable. If you cannot write or don't want to write, you may record an audio file on your mobile and send it to your partner.

On our wedding anniversary once, I wrote a letter to my wife, expressing how loved I feel by being her partner and how our relationship has enriched my life. I also have seen that things like these are treasured, binds us better, and make our relationships very enriching. Writing is powerful, and it has the power to bring out our emotions and feelings.

Gift your partner a book

If your partner is a vivid reader, you may gift him or her a book of their choice. Even if your partner is not a regular reader, you could give them a good habit of reading books by gifting them books. It could act as a good reminder for them to get into a reading habit.

I gifted books like "Men are from Mars and Women from Venus" and "The Secret" to my wife. The beautiful thing about both the partners reading the same book is that it opens up opportunities to discuss our understanding of the subject. It opens up our personalities more, throws light into how we see and perceive things.

Make a collage or video from pictures

Making a collage of pictures from memories and gifting is a great idea as well. You may gift that in a physical form or as a video file with an appropriate song played along with it.

On our 12th wedding anniversary, I had made a video of pictures with a song and shared it with her in electronic form. Things like these, we both sit together and see very often, and it brings joyful smiles to our hearts.

Buy an item that compliments your partner's passion

Each one of us has hobbies and our interest areas. Sometimes, it turns into a passion as well. You could look to see if your partner has any interest areas and accordingly buy a gift.

Being an ultramarathoner, I loved doing endurance training, and I needed a cycle once. My wife gifted me a hybrid cycle on my birthday. I still cherish and use it for my training all through the year.

Final Thoughts

There could be many more unique ways of gifting. One has the opportunities to discover more gift ideas as one understands their spouse well. It need not be a gift on various occasions to express our love and affection for each other. We have opportunities every day to share and care, express our love for each other.

Keep gifting and keep enriching your relationship.
