We May Be Seeing a 'Beetlejuice' Sequel...Soon

We just have to say his name three times.

We May Be Seeing a 'Beetlejuice' Sequel...Soon

Of course, what you're looking at is just a fan poster. But we can dream. Still the headline isn't as much of a pipe dream as you might be thinking, because there is some truth behind the madness. Here's why:

Danny Elfman, the Star-Studded Composer Behind the Score of the Original Film, Hints That Michael Keaton Is, in Fact, on Board for a Sequel

The man behind the maddening music recently ran into the ghost with the most, in fact, stating....

"A year ago, I saw Michael Keaton, and he mentioned 'So, we're doing Beetlejuice 2?', and I said 'Well, you'd know more than I do.' And I've heard nothing about it since."

Clearly it's evident that the bio-exorcist to the stars is definitely on board as evident by him acting like a little kid on a road trip asking "are we there, yet?" over and over again. That doesn't necessarily mean much except for the fact that Keaton has close ties to the man behind the entire madness himself: Tim Burton.

However, Elfman Went on Further to Stress the Mystery Behind the Development Process, Particularly With a Peculiar Person as Tim Burton

A mystery, indeed....

"Yeah, projects will be in development for quite a long time. So I think it is something that has been in development for a few years, but I don't know where it is in that process. I'm always the last one to hear, believe me. Often, I'll hear about whatever movie Tim is doing, it is kinda funny, because he'll call me and say 'Danny, I'm doing such and such a film, would you like to come on board?', and I'll already have read about it in Variety two weeks earlier. So I'm not the first one to hear about things, let me put it that way."

Elfman, of course, is all tongue in cheek with it, because you know there aren't any bitter feelings over not being the first to know about anything. Burton's like a cave troll in the dark working on the next wicked tale we can feast our eyes on, and we adore it. When he comes out, it's typically all of a sudden -- and we love it even more when he conjures up the latest delightful nightmare.

But Is Burton Really Working on a Sequel to Beetlejuice?

Possibly. Still Burton's not one for sequels as evidenced by the fact that the only sequels he's ever done were Batman Returns as director and Alice Through the Looking Glass as producer. When you think about it, the works he's completed are very much timeless and standalone, yet....

We just heard of the musical released a while ago, among other interesting facts about the film! And we can only imagine how jazzed Winona Ryder would be with a sequel given her success with Stranger Things (coincidentally this being the final season of the Netflix show, which may prompt Burton to start writing!).

She hasn't opened up about that quite yet, by the way. She's still busy with the Upside Down, but we can understand that.

It May Be Enough to Push Burton Into Working On It, Though

If a playwright can hit it big, and the lead character can jump for joy at the possibility, why not, right? As it stands, we're thinking the last project Burton had was Dumbo, and many may say it was a little lackluster, but not without its charm.

What we need is a true return to form -- and perhaps a bit darker (as the fan poster suggests). And why not throw a certain Johnny Depp in the mix, too....
