    Into the Shadows

    Into the Shadows

A long time ago in a town called Hollow Creek, there lived a family of three. There was a husband, wife and their teenager Bell. Bell and her family just moved to Hollow Creek to start a new life. The town was small but it felt as though a presence was there. The town had their own theatre, town hall ,a high school and couple grocery markets. Her parents were always working and hardly at home. Her father worked in construction while her mother was a teacher. Bell always read her books and never had time to hang out with other teens especially at school. But things were about to change when she attends Hollow Creek High. To some it was an ordinary school but to others there was somethings that aren't meant to be spoken of. On Monday August 1, 1912 Bell had woken and got ready for school. She went downstairs and fixed herself some breakfast. It was a typical morning. Bell was used to the fact of waking up and her parents not being there. Her mother Clarice had left her note saying, "My darling, your lunch is in frig. Have fun on your first day of school but be careful. There are secrets that you do not need to know." Bell had open the frig and she was happy her mother packed her favorite lunch. She had left her house and went to school. When Bell got to school, she began to feel nervous. She was beginning to wonder how is she going to make friends in a new town. The school bell rang and it was time for her to get to her first class. On the way to her class, she had ran into a strange pale teen. She wasn't dressed like normal but she wasn't scary either. Bell wondered if that was her style but she stopped and said to herself..."I shouldn't judge already. Let them judge me. Give people a chance." When she did get to her class, her teacher came to her and told her she was running a little late to class. Bell had a sense there was something not right in this town and high school. Eight hours later the school bell had rang and she was headed home. As she was walking home, the same girl she ran into school came across her again. In a froggy voice, she said "be warned...the school is not a school. It's a trap full with secrets and lies." Bell felt a little weird around her but she also felt she was telling the truth. When Bell got home, her parents was waiting for her at the table. They both had asked how her day was. Bell said, "I ran into a girl I go to class with and told me something. She told me to be careful and that the school is nothing but lies and secrets. " Her parents both looked at her with worried look. Her mother, Beth, said "Just please be careful. She might be trying to scare you darling. " Bell said "I hope so. I just want to make sure that we are starting our life over and fresh. I just want to be able to live somewhere without worrying. " The next day, Bell decided to do some investigation at the school library. She had asked the librarian, "Excuse me, but where can i find the historical book of the school?" The librarian said " There are things you don't want to know. If i were you I'd stop looking for answers you don't want. Trust me ...some kids have tried to look but never came back. " Bell asked " Why? what happened to those kids? Where'd they go?" Librarian told Bell "If you must know the answer then look in the archive in the old library in the basement. A cautionary tale...once you seek the answer it may come back and haunt you. Please don't seek the answer you want. " "I thank you for your warning but I need to know. One teenager with dark long black hair and pale face and body had approached me yesterday and told me to leave while I can and don't find the truth" Beth told the Librarian. "There is no child of that description that attends here. But if you want to know or curious you can look in old archives. " Librarian said to Bell. Three days later had passed, and as soon as Bell thought things went back to normal, it took a wrong turn and strange things began to happen at school. Two kids went missing and no one seen them since yesterday at school. Bell had arrived at school and overheard their parents and sheriff talking. She couldn't help but wonder what was going on. Bell had no choice but to go to the old archives. As soon as she began to go to basement and into the old library, she saw some one standing in the shadow looking at her. The light began to flicker and she got a little scared but she kept going. Whatever or whoever was there that was looking at her followed her. As soon as the light went out and back on the shadow figure screamed "GET OUT!" Bell had ran out of there and back outside. The parents of missing kids and the sheriff had looked at Bell and wondered what happened. They had never seen Bell or anyone ran out scared like that before. Bell had went home and locked the door. "Maybe librarian was right. Maybe I shouldn't have went into the old archives." Bell wondered. She didn't know that the moment she said that her parents were standing behind her. Beth said, " Please tell me you didn't go into the old archives. " Bell told her mother "I had to. I had no choice . Kids were disappearing and no where to be found. I got curious and ....I ....I saw a dark shadow figure told me to get out. I feel as though something or someone had been woken." Beth explained, "Look honey..I did some digging earlier at work. This whole town was built on old native grounds and strange things began happening in 1890. They believed that particular that the high school was built on top of a strange burial that one woman died on that she haunts those that trespass her path. It also says that if kids began to be too curious they go missing and don't come back. They are not dead but they are not there either. If you keep looking for the answer you seek...i don't want you disappearing like they did. " It finally began to make sense to Bell. That's what Beth saw. She saw the same spirit twice trying to warn her not to venture into the unknown. The spirit wanted to rest in peace and not talked about. Two weeks later had passed and Bell has not explored the old archives. She felt as though that she knew it was best to stay out of there and never venture down into the old library. "To those that seek the unknow, be prepared to not come back. It is not the place of the people but it is the resting place of the old natives." Quote from the old text of the Ancients.

    The Mildew Man

    The Mildew Man

I have never wanted to work with or have children. There was always something about the invincible way they lead their lives that filled me with fear. I have never longed for the warm fuzzy feeling that parents get while watching their children grow up. Ironic now that I’m in this situation. If you asked me how I ended up as a babysitter for the little boy that lives next door my answer would change depending on how many drinks I had. Sober me would probably tell you that I have been a cynic for too long and wanted to give the whole kid thing a test run. Drunk and even tipsy me would tell you the truth. I want to make a pass at the kid’s mom.

As the car shook, the aftershock of the door slammed ever so present. Will sat alone, hands gripping tightly on the wheel with tears threatening to spill from his eyes. Amber Jacklin, his once partner of two years, now ex, stalked down the heavily crowded street, her blonde hair shining underneath the city lights and eventually blending in with the rest of the crowd. Amber had yelled at him during and after their date at a crowded Italian restaurant. It had been an honest mistake; Will knew tiny spaces triggered his visions and dealing with people being so close....

    The Hotel of 'The Shining'

    The Hotel of 'The Shining'

Mountains surround this not-so desolated hotel that is on the outskirts of the town of Estes Park. It’s a calm, quiet evening at the glamourous Stanley Hotel as it shuts down for the night, and guests return to their rooms. All is well inside the hotel as many would think; but, throughout the night, ghostly laughter emits from children running up and down the halls. People come to this hotel year-round to hear the interesting yet haunting history of this hotel. The Stanley Hotel was built on July 4, 1909, in Estes Park, Colorado by F.O Stanley. It was used as a resort spot for the higher class eastern people and for people to stay that were suffering from pulmonary tuberculosis. Now, the Stanley Hotel is one of the most popular places to visit in Colorado and was made famous by the well-known author, Stephen King after the hotel inspired King for his idea of the novel, The Shining. The hotel is believed to be haunted by what has been reported by guests and a few apparitions have snuck into tourists' photos. I went to this hotel five years ago and I still remember it to this day. I was only lucky enough to see the outside of the hotel and didn't get the chance to go inside, but after me seeing this hotel, I suddenly became obsessed with Stephen King. I have a whole collection of his books including the book that was inspired by this hotel, The Shining. My interest in The Stanley Hotel all started back from a family vacation up to Colorado and during a horseback ride tour, our guide had made mention of this hotel that it was where Stephen King stayed and got his idea for The Shining. Also, the reports of paranormal happenings have caught my interest. This hotel has caused me to develop an obsession with horror books/ movies and also with the paranormal. The Stanley was said to be haunted before King stayed there. It is said that Stanley’s ghost has shown himself numerous times at the reception desk. His wife, Flora Stanley who was a pianist, can be heard sometimes playing music from the piano. There have been sightings and experiences at the Stanley Hotel that I believe to be true, even though I haven’t been inside the hotel to see for myself. It’s funny because I’ve had a few paranormal experiences myself and all were harmless. A stack of cups fell over my kitchen cupboard when I was home alone. Another time a stall door flew open on its own when I was washing my hands. In the Stanley Hotel, the most haunted room of the entire building is room 217. This is the room that Stephen King stayed in with his wife Tabitha in the year of fall of 1974. King had a nightmare about his son running through the halls of the hotel and being chased by a fire hose that strangled his son to death. After King woke up from this nightmare, he went out to the balcony for a cigarette and by the time he finished his smoke, he had the entire outline for his infamous book, The Shining. When King released the work, The Stanley Hotel’s popularity sky-rocketed and people flooded the place to hear the infamous story of Stephen King’s stay. One day, I hope that I will get the chance to venture back to Colorado to fulfill my dream of touring The Stanley Hotel. Maybe if I stay there a night, I might be able to spark up a chilling horror story of my own just like the king of horror himself did.

    The wondering swords men

    The wondering swords men

Alright, so, the incident that has me posting this actually happened to me today, just a few hours ago, but there's a lot of what I believe to be related incidents, so bear with me. My store is haunted. Laugh if you will, but, being an overnighter, I see plenty of fairly unexplainable events. I'm a reasonable person. Yes. I believe in many different supernatural entities, however, I'm also aware that physics is pretty weird in itself. If I can explain something away with logic, I will. It makes the weird things I do see . . . I don't know, less prevalent, therefore less creepy? I'm not sure, I just know the less I see of the supernatural, the better off my day to day mindest is. Now, I've worked 1st, 2nd and 3rd shift at my store. I've been there a depressingly long time for how short my life has been. The store and it's employees are great, but retail is a bitch. I've only ever noticed the weird and creepy in the dark, quiet hours of the night, generally only when there's just the employees in the store. I don't know of it's because things like stuff flying off the shelves at random always seem to have a logical explanation when the store is crowded or if it's because our ghosts only come out at night. Time of day seems like a ridiculous condition to impose on the dead. As previously mentioned, at night things like to fly off the shelves at random. On my very first week of full time overnights I remember hearing a very loud rukus coming from the back of the store. I went to go look at what had happened to find one bottle out of a package of our nutritional shakes, broken and leaking everywhere, at the opposite end of the aisle. Just for reference that's a good 28 feet in difference. It was like someone had plucked it out of the package and tossed it towards the front of the aisle. No one had entered the store in a little over an hour. We had no pharmacy waiters(not that it would have taken my pharmacist an hour to fill a script), no time wasters, no teenagers, or long shopping customers in the store. Just the employees. My manager had been in the office doing paperwork. The door leading into the office is heavy. I can hear it close from the opposite side of the store and when I poked my head into the office to find him, there he was, hunched over the store's cash reports. He had asked be what I needed when I walked into the office. I told him what happened and shrugged and said, rather nonchalantly, " Oh, yeah, I'm pretty sure the store is haunted by several things. Most people here think I'm crazy. They seem mostly benign, if occasionally annoying." "Mostly benign?" Another shrug. "There's one that likes to watch people. I get the feeling I'm being watched all the time here in the office. I few other people have noticed it at night to. The break room is worse. I've also had some pretty nasty, weird near misses." I soon found out what he meant. Things firmly planted behind a guard would end up 2 aisles over. Keeping holiday merchandise on the risers in the wee hours is a nightmare and when I got promoted I noticed the feeling of being watched while I was in the office as well, except, I'd get it the stockroom and in the back hallway by the break room and bathrooms as well. Things you set down in the stockroom would end up in the photo lab, when you hadn't been in the lab all night. Sometimes stuff would go missing altogether. I had a set of keys that you could see me very clearly set down on a counter in the cameras in the store. When I looked back at our records, you never see anyone pick them back up or even approach the area in the time I left them there. They just disappeared. Then the truly creepy things started happening. Things started flying at me. Once i had an alarmingly tall stack of 2 liters almost fall on me. Cleaning up that mess was a nightmare and took way too long. Things set solidly and levelly on the top of the middle deck would teeter in my direction. Ladders, which had been planted flat, and firmly on the ground, would shift precariously. I've had too many close calls to count. Once, while pulling stock in the back the ladder shuddered and felt like it was a bout to tip over, sideways. I lost my foothold and stumbled down several steps, heart racing. I eventually caught myself on the overstock bay I'd been pulling crap out of but not before I caught my wrist on one of the edges on the way down. It stopped my momentum, but broke my wrist. Another moment was when I was on our tallest ladder putting things up top for storage. I set the box I was carrying down and the ladder lurched forward and began to tip over. My brain short circuited and I reacted before I could think past, "Dying at work is a miserable way to go." I jumped the couple feet from the ladder to the middle deck. Stunned, I turned around and watched as the ladder clattered to the ground. When my brain caught up to what happened I sat down on the middle deck, shaking. Somehow my cashier hadn't managed to hear the noise and I'd had to call the front of the store with my cell phone when I finally managed to calm down. She laughed at me for being clumsy and I didn't bother to correct her. Most of my coworkers thought I was crazy for insisting the store was haunted too. My most recent and scariest encounter puts me in a situation OSHA(shhhh, no tattling and just to cover my bases, no, this is not a safe activity. If you're stupid enough to follow my example, especially after this story, I refuse to be held accountable if you hurt yourself. Consider yourself warned.) would definitely not approve of, but I've never before had an incident like this, so I never saw the harm to it. To elaborate, my store is in the possession of 2 gray double decker carts on wheels. They're made out of that light weight, fairly durable plastic. It is my habit during our holiday season to climb up on the larger of the 2 and pull myself along the risers as I'm stocking and putting up merchandize. It's much easier, since I can put the product I need off to the side of me and roll myself from one end of the riser to another. The constant up and down to shuffle the ladder along problem is solved. These double deckers are fairly stable and the wheels lock into place once you're stationary. Fairly easy to maneuver and given my history with ladders, I always felt safer using the double deckers in lieu of ladders. I was putting out some Christmas merchandize up onto the risers that we had gotten on our most recent truck. I had paused for a moment to look towards the front the store. The doors had opened and I was wanting to see who walked in. I was standing stationary, no movement in my part. The cart was stable and hadn't budged from where I parked it with I had been bending down to grab the items off my cart. Out of the corner of my eye I saw my casher, Tabitha, suddenly book it up the aisle. I was wondering what she was doing when the carts front wheels lurched sideways, as though someone had shoved it, hard. I had your traditional hokey slow mo flash of my impending doom. I feel forward and hit my head hard on the riser, only to keep falling. With the speed of the cart my knees would have caught the edge and I believe I would have smacked my head on the hard tile floor first. I grabbed desperately for the riser, managed to get my fingers curled around the edge and the cart stopped and stabilized. I felt a hand grab one of my pant legs, which slowed my movement. I managed to regain my balance when my palm finally connected with the riser. I immediately sat down on the cart. My legs were wobbly at the sudden burst of adrenaline. I was shakey for a good hour afterwards. Tabitha told me she suddenly had a really bad feeling and was rushing up to tell me that she didn't think me climbing all over the cart was a good idea. She caught the cart just before it pulled my feet out from underneath me. Bless that woman.

    Mysterious Arizona

I love Arizona, especially the desert. There is something almost mysterious and magical about the desert. The desert isn't tame as people think or want to believe as run-ins with wild critters have reminded me.
