When you cheat on your wife, there are consequences. Most times when John saw Beth they were alone, or in a secret spot. Today was different because he had to bring his daughter, Rachel. She liked Beth so he thought everything would be fine. Rachel was a good kid and did as she was told, so he wasn’t worried.

Soon that worry would be fear. Fear that Rachel saw something. He had gotten too comfortable, and wanted Beth so bad, the door to her room stayed open. As six year old Rachel walked down the long dark hall, she was confused. She was with her daddy, but they were at Miss Beth’s house. She couldn’t find them. She decided to go looking all through the house. While walking down the hall she saw them kissing and it scared her because she knew it was wrong. All she knew for sure, was that she had to get out of that house. She took her tiny hands and pushed the screen door so hard, that it popped back and forth, back and forth. The lady from her church, Miss Beth, ran after her, along with her daddy. Rachel was now crying again, standing by the big red truck. Her daddy kept asking her what was wrong but Rachel shook her head from side to side so hard her blonde curls swung in the air. She wasn’t talking. The long drive home was quiet, but at least she would be home soon. She wanted to feel the arms of her mommy hugging her, but her mommy wouldn’t be there. Mommy was visiting her sister in California.

As they pulled up the long gravel driveway, all Rachel could think about was her daddy kissing Miss Beth. What was she gonna do or who would she tell? She jumped down out of the truck and waited on her daddy to unlock the big gold lock of the door to the house. It was getting dark so it would be her bedtime soon and she was glad because she had an idea. If she went to bed on time her daddy would watch TV and then she would show him how mad she was at him for kissing that stupid lady.

Finally, it was bedtime, her daddy tucked her in and she squeezed her eyes shut to make him think she went right to sleep. Her daddy patted her and quietly walked out, leaving the door cracked. Rachel lay there for what seemed like hours, and then she slid out of her bed, poked her head out of the door and saw her daddy asleep by the TV. Rachel’s bare feet clapped on the floor to the laundry room. The laundry room is where the little gun was hidden that she was never to touch. Tonight she would break that rule and touch the gun. Her little hands were shaking when she pulled the black gun out of the hiding spot. She was so scared her hands were sweating, but she knew she had to help her mommy. She knew it was wrong of her daddy to kiss that lady and that her mommy would cry, so Rachel wanted to make sure her mommy never knew about the kiss. She finally got the gun tight in her hands and pointed it in front of her, walked down the hall and stood in front of her daddy. Daddy’s long beard was moving because he was breathing so hard. Rachel said, “I love you daddy, but you have been bad.” She pulled the trigger and bang, bang, bang! The gun dropped to the floor and so did Rachel.
