Murder Unbeknown
It was pouring with rain as Brian Mallory got his suitcase out of the car. It was dark and cold, with no other living soul in sight. The only thing that was accompanying Brian was the whistling trees, the howling wind, and the icy atmosphere.

Era sits in the center of a dark room, blindfolded by a scratchy dish towel with her hands tied behind her back. Her body is soaking wet from the current events of her most recent, unsuccessful escape. The bright blue party dress sticks uncomfortably to her undergarments underneath, one side of the bodice creeps lower to expose her right breast. Cleavage prominently on display... It was perfectly cliche the only source of light she could make out was a rusted lightbulb dangling from the ceiling in a small swaying motion. The vicinity was cold, smooth wood floors and metal walls. A bunker, no doubt. One where she had been dragged back and forth to for years. Her guard was compromised far too many times... and here where she was contained and abandoned, where she would recollect what brought her here in the first place: Her dreams. Tears started to soak the fabric where it covered her eyes, hearing the familiar footsteps of the man who brought her here. The man that kept her under lock and key. The inspiration that showered her with "protection" when she needed it the most. It became the biggest mistake of her life, considering it was all she had to her name. Her thoughts, her peace of mind... Controlled by safety.

The cigarette I was lighting almost fell from my lips when I caught a glimpse of the man standing a hundred feet away from me on the train platform. Turning my head to get a better look, the man was suddenly gone. After a minute or so he reappeared, only this time he was to my right and a few feet closer. I shook my head to clear my thoughts because there was no way this was the same man from 5 years ago. I had been working a lot lately, and fatigue was as good of an excuse as any other.

Once upon a time there was a girl named Claire Wilson. Claire was a very beautiful young woman with curly raven-colored hair, big brown eyes and a radiant complexion with rose colored lips from a small suburban town with dreams and aspirations of making it as a famous model. She would even do whatever it took to achieve her dream, even if it meant working odd jobs. People around town used to call her doll face on account of how she was hailed as the most beautiful girl in the town, winning several beauty contests. One night while driving home from work, Claire was involved in a horrible accident leaving her completely disfigured, leaving her in a coma. After awakening from her slumber, Claire went into the bathroom to see herself in the mirror. She turned on the light and looked at her bandaged face then proceeded to remove them. To her horror, she soon realized that she could no longer recognize herself. Her beauty was gone forever. Her eyebrows and parts of her hair were singed off. Her lips partially gone, her nose was removed, bloodshot eyes with bruises underneath and broken front teeth. After examining her new appearance, a single tear fell from her horrid face. She began to weep. Her dreams of being a model were over. Suddenly Claire let out a blood curdling scream. Within an instant Claire became psychotic. Doctors quickly rushed into the room to investigate the matter. In a fit of rage, Claire violently broke the bathroom mirror then picked up a piece of glass and proceeded to attack the doctors with rabid ferocity. One by one, she brutally stabbed each one of the doctors in their faces to make them all look as hideous and disgusting as her. After her short killing spree, she went after and killed several more people, including nurses and patients, massacring anyone in her way. A new killer was born. Once she felt satisfied with her work, she calmly exited as if nothing had ever happened. Soon after, Claire discovered a neighborhood close by. She indiscriminately picked a house then proceeded to break in. After she entered the home, she made her way into the kitchen and grabbed a huge knife laying on the counter. She silently made her way upstairs to hear a couple sound asleep. Claire kicked in the door, causing the couple to awaken, screaming in terror. Claire immediately pounced onto the bed then viciously attacked them. First she went after the husband, slicing off his lips then cutting out his tongue, then removed his eyes. Next, she went after his wife, cutting away at her mouth and nose, then slit the woman’s throat. After the gruesome murders, she ransacked the home, not for jewelry or money, but for cosmetics. Once Claire found what she was looking for, she decided to head into the bathroom and apply the makeup to her face in an odd and unusual way. The lipstick on her destroyed lips was smudged. She drew on eyebrows to give herself a menacing look. She also added dark eyeshadow, even added foundation, then powered her face, making it look like a porcelain doll. After that, she returned to the couple she killed only to cut them open and drench her hands in blood. She took one blood-covered hand and began to write a message on the mirror that read: “I AM DOLL FACE.” With her new persona, doll face, yet again, calmly exited into the night wandering, looking to quench her newfound bloodlust.

Every society, culture, or even theology has some figure that is used to help quell the wild side of individuals. It would be fair to argue that monsters are a culturally varying enforcer. How many of us remember at some point our parents told us if we didn’t behave or do what was expected that something or someone was going to get us? The boogeyman was used to make kids stay in bed at night. Dracula and werewolves were used by different cultures to tell young people not to go out after dark. Nessie was a tool to keep the population from swimming in the Loc. Even the most well known enforcer figure used today, the Devil, is used to intimidate the general population to be “good.” Is it possible that as a society we need the monsters to help encourage social morals?

The clock ticked on as Valerie sat in her French class, trying not to doze off. The light fixtures above her swung on their wires as the lightbulbs flickered. Any day now they would collapse on someone, she figured. They were incredibly unstable.
My Dreadful Story
Water drips... Three days and that's all I hear... Water drips. Depending on the time of day, I could barely see my surrounding with the glare that flies through the room. If I had any idea of what's going on in this situation I would be planning and acting on my next move, but I'm not ready. I don't know where I am, why I'm here or even how I got here... On top of it all, it's too dark. The only time I could get some decent light is when the old man walks in to bring me food and water. Why are they still keeping me alive? I can see the old man's fear and pity when he looks at me... As if somebody is forcing him to feed me.... Like an animal. I could knock the old man out and run out the door when he walks in again, but I don't know what's outside these walls... It seems too easy... But it's the only way. Is that what they want me to do? If I'm going to die, it's the only thing I can do.

Like a lot of movies from my childhood, I remember this one being a lot more fun than it actually was. I remember the little children critters being a lot grosser, I remember the movie being a lot more violent, frankly I remember it being a lot more Cronenberg. But of course I was... 8, 9, when I saw this movie for the first time and my childhood imagination must have embellished a bit.

I think it is safe to say that these days the stars of YouTube are a source of inspiration for so many of us. Whether it is gaming, make-up tutorials or even ghost hunting, there is someone out there who were are proud to call our heroes. I'm no exception. I have my ghost hunting favourites, and in the lead-up to my first investigation I spent several long hours watching their videos with something close to obsession. After time, my attention turned to the equipment they used. I'd pause the videos and try to get the name on their cameras, the make of their EVP recorders, and then cry silently as I discovered the price.

Eli Roth is a director that seems like he thinks that he is more talented then what he can actually put on screen. Every movie of his that I’ve seen is a wink and and a smile, and it seems like Roth is like “Yo, bro, isn’t this cool?” It’s kinda like Quentin Tarantino, but without the substance that Tarantino brings to the table.

It was a normal morning. A coffee breakfast, chased with dry toast and orange juice, a shower, a shave and a bathroom break. All normal. Work out clothes on, an early morning jog and another shower after. See? All normal. Dressed for work and out the door on time. It was a five block walk to the office, and me in my pressed shirt and pants and nice shoes and a blue tie to offset the lack of color in the shirt, would be there in short time. By my watch, I had half an hour and I had never been late to work.

The mystery behind how handsome Rosemary's baby looks is as mind-boggling as the drop in the rate of quality horror movies. With the advancement of technology and social security, film-makers are finding it harder and harder to make movies that will hone into our deepest and innermost fears. On making a small trip to Where's The Jump?, we can see that the best rated movies are from the 60s, 70s, and 80s. Since then, there has been a significant shortage of good horror movies. Why? Because the more we knew, the less we feared.
