With so many overbearing and over-protective parents out there, there's bound to be those that mean well most of the time - this article is not about those people.

If you thought "Mommie Dearest" Joan Crawford was the epitome of evil parenting, think again. With so many overbearing and over-protective parents out there, there's bound to be those that mean well most of the time - this article is not about those people. Some parents truly take the cake when it comes to overprotection and being downright cruel and evil, and I was inspired to write on this topic after seeing #GetOut, which, if you haven't seen yet includes some pretty awful parents. So, to honor the adults that both raise children and raise hell, here's a list of who I believe to be some of the most nefarious sets of parents (and single ones) in horror movies.

1. Carrie - Margaret White

Fanatically religious mother Margaret White thought she was the perfect mother when she deprived Carrie from experiencing the real world. She thought that she was doing her best by ranting about sin and abusing Carrie by locking her up in a tiny closet to pray for forgiveness and filling her head with religious guilt. No wonder poor Carrie exploded and tapped into her inner power of telekinesis to seek revenge towards those who harmed her. In the end, Carrie foolishly thought she was gonna be comforted by her mother only to have the bible thumper stab her in the back and reveal that she was actually the product of marital rape. We know how that story ends. In a moment of deep destress, Carrie finally unleashes her wrath and loses control of her powers, burning their house to the ground.

2. The Shining - Jack Torrance

Overwhelmed with personal, marital and career issues Jack decides to take a job as a winter caretaker for the Overlook Hotel. After being snowed in and finding some backstory information about the hotels nightmarish past, Jack decides to follow the advice of Grady who had previously killed his family in hotel grounds. He tells Jack he needs to “correct” his wife and kid, causing Jack to become even more aggressive and overcome with violent thoughts. After he's finally had enough he decides to butcher his wife and already traumatized kid. That was the plan, though lucky for them they were able to escape.

3. Psycho - Norma Bates

Smothering mother Mrs. Bates wants nothing more for her little boy than a lifetime of togetherness with no one else around to share him with. But when it was time for her to detach from her son Norman, he didn't take it lightly and after years of controlling his every move he didn't think it was right for her to find happiness with another man. This caused him to absolutely lose his mind and thanks to her domineering actions, he went on a murderous killing spree (including his mother and her boyfriend). If any girl wanted to get near her beloved son, Mrs. Bates was always there to take over Norman's mind as an alternate personality.

4. The Loved Ones - Daddy Stone

bewareofthehorror

Talk about weird incestuous relationships! "Princess" Lola was everything for this man, and of course as with many girls out there who are their “Daddy's little princesses”, Lola took advantage of this more than others and had her daddy wrapped around her finger. It even got to the point where she would make him her accomplice and help her kidnap boys for her "perfect" prom, even torturing and lobotomizing them. But in the end thanks to a brave survivor Lola and daddy's reign of terror abruptly came to an end, what a way to raise your little girl right?

5. The People Under the Stairs - Mommy and Daddy

Greed. The more people have the more they want. But unfortunately for mommy and daddy from The People Under The Stairs, it wasn't enough to make them go crazy. Trying to teach their daughter to follow the rules correctly and without any questions to avoid being turned into a cannibalistic freak, Alice tries to survive by any means necessary. Finally after finding out they weren't her real parents but a pair who came from a long line of inbred people, Alice is saved by one of their tenants. However, she will always have the scarring of what mommy and daddy put her through.

6. The Last House on the Left (1972) - Krug Stillo

And the father of the year award goes to (yea right). If being a rapist, sadist and all around psychopath wasn't enough, Krug Stillo from The Last House on the Left 1972, was also teaching his charming son Jr. to follow his same degenerate ways. In the end he showed that he didn't give an ounce of care about him even to the point of encouraging him to commit suicide for his own benefit, by the end of the film audience members were cheering after he got what he rightfully deserved.

7. Dead Alive aka Braindead - Vera Cosgrove

Smother mother Vera Cosgrove could have easily been Norma Bates BFF, with her overbearing attitude towards her son Lionel she wanted to command his every move in life (and in death). To a certain extent we can't blame Vera 100% for this. Lionel was clearly a momma's boy, but when his mother got bit by a Sumatran rat monkey there was no stopping her from becoming a ravenous zombie. Ultimately, Lionel managed to find a replacement for his mother's love, (per say) in Paquita and stopped the rest of the flesh eating freaks with the epic lawnmower scene we all know and love.

8. The Woman - Chris Cleek

Lawyer and family man Chris Cleek seems like your typical successful blue collar American. Little did we know that he was hiding a deep, dark secret that only his family was aware of. When Chris stumbles upon a ferocious woman in the woods at first glance you might think he means well and he really wants to help refine the uncivilized female. But when he ends up locking her up in his cellar and starts to violently torture her from rape, to scolding her with hot water and even letting his son commit the same atrocities as him we find out that she hasn't been the first victim. The woman exacts her revenge on the Cleek's and goes back to her habitat along with Chri's daughters and his previous victim.

9. Friday the 13th - Mrs. Voorhees

Let's go all the way back to the beginning right before the infamous (and indestructible) #JasonVoorhees became what he is today. It's all thanks to his loving mother Mrs. Voorhees, we know that Jason inherited his killer traits from her. Although she meant well by trying to punish those who wronged her son and allowed him to drown while away at camp, she literally lost it and just went after any promiscuous party-loving "teenagers" she could find. Even today, Jason remains one of the most prolific serial killers in horror movies with one of the highest body counts, all thanks to his mommy.

10. Get Out - Mr & Mrs. Armitage

Who would have thought that meeting your girlfriend's parents would be a total nightmare? What was supposed to be a weekend of fun and getting to know each other, Chris's world was turned upside down by the reality of it all. Nervous at first to meet his white girlfriend's parents she reassures him that he's being paranoid and everything is fine, as the days grow extremely uncomfortable Chris starts to realize the Armitage's are hiding something deeply disturbing. With the help of their daughter, they kidnap unsuspecting black people as they perform a brain surgery that transplants the consciousness of whites into the body of those who've been taken. No wonder Get Out has been a hit at the box office and one of the best horror/thrillers of the year!
