From ghosts to creepy children, this season's scary legends have been formed over decades and even centuries. However, here are four horrifying events that really happened!

1. The Severed Finger

Amanda and a few of her college friends decided to dress up and go trick or treating in the local neighborhood. Spring Lake, affectionately referred to as the "Irish Riviera", is a small beach resort town with huge Victorian houses, manicured lawns, tree-lined streets, flower filled parks, and a well managed beach that's never been corrupted by humanity.

Later that night Amanda was alone in her apartment and decided to delve into the kaleidoscope of colorful candies that she had collected. In the midst of the prismatic assortment was a severed finger.

The finger was absolutely real, definitely not a Halloween trick being played on her. Authorities were called and soon determined that the finger most certainly belonged to a human-being and had only recently been severed.

Amanda and her friends carefully provided authorities with a detailed map of every single house that they had visited that night. Not one person owned up to giving away a real-life finger. Local hospitals were also contacted and nobody had sought medical attention over a lost digit.

Where or how the severed finger ended up in her treat bag (or who it belonged to) was never discovered.

2. Eyeball In The Punch Bowl

Kaitlyn and Mark decided to throw an exciting Halloween party for both the children, and the adults in the neighborhood. Kaitlyn went all out and rented Halloween themed bounce houses and decorations. She even went as far as to hire professional entertainers and had enough food and drinks for 100 people catered in. Kaitlyn was the talk of the town, and that's exactly how she liked it.

One of the most popular drinks of the night was the berry punch with floating eyeballs. The eyeballs were not only an eerie-fun decoration, they were also an edible garnish (or so they thought).

Some time into the night an older gentleman who had been lounging around the punch bowl all night began violently choking. Mark who just-so-happened to be an EMT began administering the heimlich maneuver.

When the slimy, mushy eyeball dislodged and came flying out, the crowd of frantic onlookers noticed that it was real!

It was discovered that the catering company had apparently taken Halloween just a little too seriously when they decided to add real, sheep eyes into the punch.

The eyes of a sheep is considered a delicacy in some parts of the world. In some parts of Arabia they are only given to the guest of honor at the table. In some parts of Africa they are considered to be such a delicacy that only the most appreciated and esteemed are allowed to scoff them down. However, this "so called" delectable morsel didn't go over so well at this particular party.

The well-known catering company denied knowing that real sheep eyes had been placed into the punch bowl. In fact, they denied ever using eyeballs of any sort.

3. Goodbye Danny

Susan had just came home from a long shift at the hospital. It was Halloween night and there was plenty of excitement in the Emergency Room - she was exhausted.

When she entered her house she immediately noticed that her best friend Danny was sitting on the sofa. It wasn't uncommon for him to come over unannounced, in fact he had his own key. "Hey Danny" she lazily commented as she walked past him.

She noticed that he was acting strange, he didn't move or even blink when she walked by and he was covered with blood and gore. She didn't think much of it, after all it was Halloween and Danny and he enjoyed the spooky titillations.

After her shower, Susan walked back into the living room but Danny was gone. That's when her cell phone began to ring, it was the hospital calling. Thinking that they were trying to call her to go back to work, she ignored the call.

A few moments later there was a frantic bang on the front door, it was Danny's mother. Susan was informed that her best friend Danny had just perished - on the scene, in a automobile accident more than five hours away.

While Danny's lifeless body was being pulled from the wreckage (five hours away) he managed to show up on his best friends sofa to say goodbye.

4. The Black-Eyed Girl

It was Halloween night, Ed was 72 years old and stuck-in-his ways, completely unwilling to change his ways of doing or thinking about Halloween. Ed believed that trick-or-treating was for the youngsters. Nothing teed-off Ed more than seeing older - teenagers and adults soliciting around and asking for candy.

As he sat on his front porch, admiring and applauding all of the costumed children, he noticed an older girl lingering around in his yard. "She looked to be around 16 - 18 years old". Ed later explained. "She wasn't even wearing a Halloween costume, just an old black hoodie covering her face."

The mysterious girl finally approached Ed and held out her hand. "Gimme!" she demanded in an uncanny voice.

Ed eyed the girl and then smirked "Aren't you a bit old to0 be trick-or-treating, you're not even wearing a costume!" Ed remarked before blowing out the jack-o'-lantern sitting by his feet.

A few youngsters were straggling along and Ed emptied his remaing candy into their pumpkin-shaped buckets. The hooded girl belligerently shoved one of the children and yelled "I SAID GIMME!"

"Now you listen here!" Ed grudgingly shouted. "Trick-or-Treating is for the children, you're clearly much too old to be out here taking from these kids. I wont give you a single thing, not one piece!"

The strange girl removed the hood from her face - exposing her pitch-black eyes and crooked, sharp teeth. Ed stumbled in fear as he beheld the alarming sight.

The black eyed girl reached for Ed, placing her cold, numbing hands around his throat. Some of the outraged onlookers began dialing 911 and rushing to Ed's side. The girl turned and ran, vanishing into the shadows.

During the short moment when the girl touched Ed, he described something horrifying. He claimed to have seen his own death flash before his eyes. He even spoke in vivid-detail about the clothing that he saw himself wearing in the vision. "I was laying in a white casket, wearing that old Sunday Suit that's hanging in my closet."

The very next day, Ed was found dead in his home. His friends and neighbors began to freak out when they arrived at his funeral where he was resting in a white casket, wearing that old Sunday Suit that he described hanging in his closet. Every detail of the vision that Ed had spoke of - came true, right down to the faded flowers.

An unrecognizable, hooded girl was spotted sitting in the back of the chapel. She has been seen sauntering around the neighborhood on every Halloween night since. Some of the residents even began leaving unsupervised or looked after buckets filled with candy sitting outside in hopes of avoiding a visit from the black eyed girl.

Black-eyed children (or black-eyed kids) Is an European contemporary legend of paranormal creatures that resemble children between ages 6 and 16, with pale skin and black eyes, who are reportedly seen hitchhiking or begging, or are encountered on doorsteps of residential homes.

Halloween Night is a magical and bewitching time of the year. It's also the time when many people believe that the existence of death and evil is more prominent than ever.

As you go about, enjoying this festive, spooky occasion - keep in mind that things are not always what they seem on Halloween.
