Jenny decided to go to Starbucks on her lunch break, it was about 12:23 pm the line was fairly long. There were about 15 people all together in line, Jenny was the last in line but she noticed the 6 ahead of her; a mother and her young son, a business man in his 30's flirting with a female co-worker of his, a gay man listening to music, and an elderly woman. The line was moving very slow as it was a busy time so she decided to look at the coffee/coffee cups displayed in the woven baskets. She notices that the gay man also was looking at a few metal tumblr cups, they had a lot of different styles and colors. After a few seconds, Jenny becomes bored with looking at the products and re-focuses her attention to the line which is still at a stand-still. Finally after about 7 or so minutes the line ahead moves but because of his music and attention on the tumblr cups the gay man didn't move ahead, naturally there was a few steps gap between the rest of the line and him but it wasn't the worst thing. Jenny decided to not speak up as the line wasn't going to go anywhere and if worst came to worst she'd just ask him to move up in the line. After the line moved a few steps again and the gay man was still not paying attention, the elderly lady decided to go around him and as she did she scoffed at him and spoke loudly as she went past,
"Stupid gay men always shopping for SOMETHING! Pay attention sissy boy." As she continued to talk about him, she was staring at the back of his head. Not realizing that the gay man wasn't listening to any music, and actually had heard what was being said. As he turned around to look for all the usual suspects, he was quite shocked to see that the hatred had been coming from an elderly woman. The gay man notices not only has this woman been rude for absolutely no justification but she's also cut him in the line. He turned his body completely to the woman and said calmly,
"Sorry g-time, shopping isn't a strictly dickly thing, how about you keep your attitude and comments to yourself.... AND get your angry elderly body behind my gay shopping ass."
The elderly woman's face was beyond mortified as she heard the gay man talk about her in such a way, that she didn't even think to speak back but instead just reached for a coffee mug within arms length and smashes the gay mans face with it, as the mug hits him the handle not only does it break his nose but a piece of the coffee mug gets lodged in his left cheek inches from his eye. The gay man instinctively throws the tumblr mug in the elderly woman's face, the tumblr itself smashed against her chin and the straw went through her upper lip and out right above her right nostril. Before anyone had a chance to intervene or even process what just happened, the two fell on the floor seconds after the fight started. As their bodies laid on the floor, Jenny couldn't believe what she just witnessed as she looked around the room everyone's face was in disbelief....
Suddenly a voice seemed to break the stillness and silence,
"Call 911!, Somebody HURRY!!"
Employees call the cops who come to find the pair who fought unconscious on the ground bleeding, they were rushed to the local hospital. The cops ask all the people who were there at the time of the incident what happened, but only Jenny and the young boy who was waiting in line with his mother saw the altercation. The cops decide that it is best for the two to ride down with them in their police car to the precinct to be questioned away from the chaos. The little boy's mother seemed to be hesitant at first but she reassured her son with a brave face and kissed him on his cheek. On the car ride down, Jenny and the young boy talked :
“I’ve never been in a police car before.” The boy said to Jenny.
“It’s okay, we are not in trouble. The cops just want to ask us some questions about the man and lady who were acting bad in the store. Since we’re going to be friends for a little, we should know each others’s name, I am Jenny Peggle .”
“My name is Fred. I hope this doesn’t take to long, my mom is taking me to go see the new Batman movie for my birthday. I told her 'I didn’t want my baby brother there' because she always has to take him to the potty.”
Jenny laughed at Fred’s honesty as they pulled into the station. Walking inside, they start to make their way down the hall to an interview room but they’re stopped in their tracks as a man rushes into the station screaming about being kidnapped.
Under lockdown at the precinct Jenny and Fred were in one of the interrogation rooms alone. They had been waiting for a few hours to just be questioned. After 30 minutes, Jenny had fallen asleep. She awoke to Fred pushing on her right shoulder, she opened her eyes slowly one at a time, focusing on the boy,
“Why are we still in here?”
She looked around the room , and plopped her head back down.
“Who know.. You’ve been sleeping the entire time. Do you have a phone?” Fred asks.
“…Yeah?”
Jenny sits up straight, brushes her hair out of her face and starts looking through her purse, not finding anything she begins to pat all her pockets.
“…ssshhitt! I needed to charge it so I gave it to the cop when we got into the patrol car.”
Jenny just sat there in deep thought as Fred continued to look at her. They just sat there in silence, until Fred spoke again,
“Welllll, can you either get it back or ask someone what time it is?”
Jenny looked at him weirdly, before she could open her mouth, Fred started to speak
“No one is listening to me. My mom is definitely here and I just want to go home...”
Jenny continued to gaze at him weirdly but for different reasons now, as she went to open her mouth Fred again cuts her off,
“Please Jenny, please. I’m so tired of today.”
She looked at him with sympathy and responded,
“yeah, you’re right. We need to leave.”
She got up and headed towards the door, banging on the door for a few seconds until she starts to yell,
“HEEEYYYYYYY!!!!! NON CRIMINALS IN HERREEE!! OPENNNNNN….”
The door swings open, Jenny steps back and stops yelling,
“Wow finally! This boy ~ [as she points to Fred] ~ has been asking for at least the time or to speak with his mother. He’s a child, this is a police station, he is an eye witness not a murderer so can we please..”
The cop interupts her as she's talking.
‘Ma’am, can you please step out here for a second.”
“Yeah... no problem BUT this kid comes with us”
“No Ma’am, you and only you please.”
Jenny angrily snaps back,
“Am I being arrested? Is he being arrested?”
The cop lets out a long sigh and rubs his hands together,
“No ma’…”
“Okay so the kid comes with me, I could care less how personal it is. No adult, let alone a ..freaking child, should be treated this way just for you to get us to answer a few questions.”
As she goes to grab her bag, she waves to the boy to follow, as Fred gets up the cop says,
“Fred, please sit back down. You’ll be out of here soon, I promise.”
Jenny twirls around, filled with rage she stomps her feet.
“FINEEEE!”
She turns to Fred,
“What’s your mothers number kid? I’ll call her for you if this jackoff will let me”
She looks back at the cop, who at this point is getting impatient but Jenny takes her time. She pulls out a pen and extends her arm out with her palm facing upwards. Fred takes the pen with a smile and writes the number down and puts the pen into her hand. Jenny starts to walk out the door when Fred yells to her before slumping down back in the seat as the door closes him in.
“Thank you!”
Jenny is in the middle of yelling at the cop when he informs her that they are going into a lockdown.
“Ma’am, please I need you to calm down. We’re dealing with a serious situation right now that we were not expecting. I want you to talk to Fred about the situation, okay? Not a lot of time to explain but you are the only person he has right now to comfort him. Please go in there and get him so we can hastily take you to a safer room.”
The cop reopens the door and Jenny looks crazily at the officer, looking past him, she sees officers running around the front end of the hallway. The officer clears his throat as he looks at the opened door, Jenny snaps into reality seeing how serious the situation was. She rushes over to Fred and just grabs him by his hand, dragging him out the seat while simultaneously telling him
“Get up, Get up now. Don’t ask anything now, I’ll you everything in a little. Just stay close to me...got it?”
Jenny stops leading Fred out the room to get his response to which Fred quickly let out a “Yeah…got it.”
Jenny and Fred walk out the room to meet with the cop who immediately tells them to run down the hall to the officer’s lounge room. The cop opens the door with a key and tells the two to get inside the room, which they do and as soon as the door opens it closes just as quickly. In a state of shock, Fred runs to the door in attempt to open in but its locked. Jenny pulls Fred towards her,
“Fred…stop…”
“Move away from the door and shut the fuck up or they’ll know we’re in here….”
A voice whispers behind Jenny and Fred, the turn around instantly at the sound of someone else in the room with them, turning around they see a teenage boy a little beaten and bruised looking at them. Jenny stands in front of Fred,
“Who are you? What’s going on right now?” Jenny asked the teenager.
“…My name’s Leo, and someone wants me dead right now….while I am in here…” Leo stammered.
