'American Horror Story: Apocalypse' Review

Now that was an interesting first episode to an apocalypse. It started off immediately with major cities getting nuked and taking an elite few to safe houses called outposts.

We don't really see a connection to the two combined seasons, MurderHouse and Coven. At least not quite. It establishes its own story and gives us the set up of what we will see in future episodes.

I don't know about you all, but I definitely re-watched MurderHouse and Coven for this combination of my two favorite seasons! Plus we get Jessica Lange back!

There are a few new people and some that have only been here for a few seasons, but they have already stepped up their game in showing what it takes to be a part of a production like this. The two newest people are above. They are the main love interests so far as well. We see some couples, but they are immediately torn a part in some way. I haven't seen either of these actors in previous seasons, so I am excited to see what they bring to the table.

Sarah Paulson said in an interview that there is a supernatural element to each season. In this season we are immediately whisked into an underground area that is safe from the radiation due to the bombs and the apocalypse starting. We meet many characters and get to know the dynamics of the underground outpost. We get to understand the difference between greys and purples and the supposed leaders. Then we are met by the evil-bearer himself, Michael Langdon, and he sets up the next episode. I can't wait to see what the next episode will bring and who gets to be a part of Michael's plan.

It brings a Judeo-Christian vibe with the Earth being consumed in fire and killing all those who are unworthy and then a final judgement (done by Michael Langdon as we see in the last part of the episode) to see who is really worthy to keep living.

There are still a lot of what-if's, however, like is Michael really the leader of the Cooperative? Who is the Cooperative and what is their game plan? There are a lot of unanswered questions especially about the Murder House ghosts and Coven witches.

If you are familiar with the Dante's Inferno theory about AmericanHorrorStory, there are two levels left: lust and violence. For those unsure, Dante's Inferno is about Dante Alighieri's interpretation of what the 9 Circles of Hell are. They are: Limbo (Murder House), Lust, Gluttony (Hotel), Greed (Freak Show), Anger (Roanoke Nightmare), Heresy (Cult), Violence, Fraud (Asylum), and Treachery (Coven). Now, this is also based off of Ryan Murphy's (the creator) own assumptions. He put it on his Instagram showing the correlation between the two. We don't know if that's on purpose or not.

So far I think that violence is winning. In the first five minutes almost the whole world is destroyed and we see how many people are killed and torn from one another.

Then when we enter the safe outpost two people are killed for breaking the rules and then another for having radiation poisoning. I think that this is more violent than lustful, but does that mean that my theory is correct? I could be completely off base.

Michael Langdon. The devil's child. For those who don't remember, he is the spawn of Tate Langdon and Vivien Harmon, with the former raping the latter in a black suit being a ghost. Billie Dean Howard in the MurderHouse season prophesied that this would "usher in the end of times."

We meet him in the last couple minutes as he is explaining to the "headmistress" of sorts, of the outpost that he is going to go through a selection process of taking the purples and greys.

I can't to see how the witches are going to play a part in this wonderfully twisted new series. I am mainly excited for episode five because Murphy said that it is an awesome one, but it's also five weeks away...
