Jennifer Taylor as Kat Connolly

I had been excited for this film for a good while, and a good bit of it involves one name: Lawrence. This film was a real-life family affair: the three Lawrence brothers, Joey, Matthew, and Andrew (the latter and youngest of the three serving as the director), Samantha Cope (Joey's fiancée) as the main protagonist, Jackie Everstone, and Joey's daughter, Charleston Lawrence, as Madison Everstone. The film sees Jackie making the final touches on her dance studio, which she co-owns with her best friend, Kat Connolly.

Jackie was also in relationship with Kevin Richardson, a plastic surgeon; her first relationship since the tragic hit-and-run that claimed the life of her husband, Jonathan Everstone, three years prior. She is happy to be dating again, but unbeknownst to Jackie, all is not well. It turns out that Kevin has some greedy motives, as we see him in the office of family lawyer Jerry Shapiro asking about Madison's inheritance--right before Kevin offs him with a chemical-laced syringe. Before the murder, Kevin learns that he'd get his hands on the fortune in the event that he and Jackie get married, so of course, he proposes, with Jackie (at first) unaware of her soon-to-be hubby's plans.

In addition, Kat and Jackie's interview with mutual friend Maya Wilder doesn't go like they both wanted, as Maya mentioned the Everstone family curse, and asked questions about Jonathan's death, which she referred to as a murder. Maya's questions ended up making her Kevin's next victim, and Jackie begins to suspect that something is, indeed, rotten in Denmark. Jackie remembered stories about an additional Everstone sibling, and she figured that the only one who could give her the answers she wanted was Jonathan's brother, William Kimble. However, upon finding William, Jackie was brushed off, but William decided to arrange a meeting with Jackie, which revealed quite a lot.

As William revealed, Kevin was actually his and Jonathan's half-brother, and he was immensely troubled. Despite patriarch Edward Everstone's attempts to raise Kevin like he was his own and help him, he ended up cutting him off financially, and as William revealed, Kevin approached Jonathan for money three years prior, and it was Kevin who ran down his brother on the day in question. All the while, Kevin abducted Madison, and Kat was informed about Kevin's role in Jonathan's murder by Jackie. Later on, Kat spotted Kevin stashing Madison in the dressing room, and Kat's response? She greeted him...and told Kevin that he was on camera killing Jonathan.

So Kat's in on this, and the original plan was for the pair to split up the family fortune; but Kevin had his own plans. Kevin decided that Kat would be killed along with Jackie and Madison so he could have it all, but figuring this, Kat pulled out a gun and shot Kevin so she could have it all. What followed was Jackie searching for Madison, only to find a syringe-wielding Kat, who revealed her jealousy of Jackie as a motive for her evil and greedy plans. Kat took down William after his entrance, but her search for Jackie ended with the villainess finding a mannequin before she was knocked out by Jackie and arrested.

My Husband's Secret Brother (also known as A Deadly Deed) aired on Lifetime Movie Network on September 17, 2021, and featured Jennifer Taylor as hidden villainess Kat Connolly. Taylor has done so many Lifetime films in her career, most recently the Netflix-released Hostage House, where she shined as the film's main protagonist, Susan Daniels. This film marks Taylor's fourth time playing a Lifetime villainess, and honestly, Kat Connolly is Taylor's best heel role. Kat was a true Wolf in Sheep's Clothing; befriending Jackie for so long, only to scheme against her due to her own bitterness and jealousy of her longtime friend. She was definitely more ruthless than I expected; Lifetime's promo suggested that Kat would be a villainess, but I had her as a mere second-in-command. When she shot Kevin, that showed that Kat was in full control of the entire scheme, and she wasn't taking any prisoners. This was yet another amazing and phenomenal performance from Taylor.

To me, Jennifer Taylor will always be Chelsea from Two and a Half Men. I loved that show (and still do); I loved Taylor on that show (and still do). Taylor is also known to fans of Burn Notice as Elsa, Sam Axe's girlfriend, and she's also made appearances on Ghost Whisperer, NCIS, and another Chuck Lorre sitcom, Mom (among other shows).
